Coastal Access Podcast Available

Hear about issues in accessing the coast in a podcast series called Right of Way. In episode 4, one of Hike NS’s board members talks about access to coastal hiking. The podcast focuses on coastal access in NS, particularly the ways access is being limited or changed by changing property ownership, erosion, or lack of clarity about which access points are public, and which are privately owned. It touches on coastal development, the demise of the coastal protection act and

how that impacted access, changing property ownership, shoreline hardening, and access to recreational opportunities, etc. Hear all the episodes and learn more about the Coastal Access Project here.

Link between daily steps and reduced risk of dying

A study in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that walking an average of at least 3,967 steps a day started to reduce the risk of dying from any cause, and 2,337 steps a day reduced the risk of dying from cardiovascular diseases. An increase of 1,000 steps a day was associated with a 15% reduction in the risk of dying from any cause, while an increase of 500 steps a day was associated with a 7% reduction in dying from heart disease and stroke.
