Hike NS AGM: June 8, Halifax


The Hike NS Annual General Meeting will take place in Halifax on Saturday, June 8 at 12:30 pm. Learn more here. The Hike Nova Scotia board will put forward a recommendation to increase membership fees.

Award Presented to Keppoch at Hiking Summit



Hike Nova Scotia has awarded an Antigonish nonprofit organization its highest award. At its annual Hiking Summit held in Antigonish on the weekend (May 31-June 2), Hike Nova Scotia presented the Positive Action for the Keppoch Society with the Summit Award. The Summit Award is presented to an organization or individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to the growth and development of hiking in Nova Scotia.

Call Fall Guided Hikes & Walks

Deadline: August 11


Hike Nova Scotia invites groups across NS to partner with it on delivering guided hike or walk events in the fall of 2024. Hike NS will help promote events and provide a how-to guide and trail prizes to giveaway. If your municipality, First Nation or organization can organize a hike or walk event (or already plan to host one), please register your event by August 11 for events between September 13 and November 17. Ulnooweg Summer Solstice Run

June 22



Help us celebrate Indigenous History Month in June! In honour of promoting healthy lifestyles and community healing through reconciliation, Hike NS will participate in the Ulnooweg Summer Solstice Run/walk on June 22. We invite you to join us in Millbrook or take part virtually. There are run and walk options and a breakfast and awards ceremony afterwards.

Accessibility and Trails Needs Assessment

Hike NS is gearing up to provide some learning experiences for trail managers on accessibility - how we can make trails in Nova Scotia more accessible to persons with disabilities. Please take a moment to complete this brief online survey to give us more direction on what you want to learn about this topic (for those involved in trail building and maintenance).

Walk Day a Success!


The third annual Nova Scotia Walk Day was a big success, seeing 106 walks with over 1600 participants! Thank you to all who were involved, whether you led a group, participated or simply promoted the day to others! You can watch the full highlight video for NS Walk Day 2024 here!

OCC Instructor Course: Sept. 27-29, Truro



The Outdoor Council of Canada (OCC) is looking for folks with an extensive base of outdoor leadership experience to become an OCC instructor. An instructor course is being offered in Truro from September 27 to 29. The cost is $400 to $450. Learn more and apply here. Apply well in advance as it takes at least two weeks to be vetted and approved to take the course.

Sandy Lake Guided Hikes


The Sandy Lake - Sackville River Regional Park Coalition is offering a series of guided walks at Sandy Lake Regional Park in June and July.
