This January, I started with McTrans as a Student Assistant working in Quality Assurance. So far, being here has been a wonderful opportunity for me to experience firsthand how software is developed and to apply the skills I’ve learned from my technical courses. Currently, I am finishing my associate degree at Santa Fe College, and next spring, I will be transferring to UF to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science. With software being such a massive field, I feel extremely lucky to have found a very specific niche that I personally find interesting and beneficial to society. I have always had a strong fascination with transportation and urban planning, and I originally considered civil engineering before deciding on computer science as my major. Discovering McTrans, a company dedicated to developing software solutions for transportation engineering challenges, really felt like finding the perfect combination of my personal interests and career aspirations.
Currently, my responsibilities with McTrans revolve around assisting with software testing and quality assurance. Most of my work here is supporting the Quality Assurance Team Lead and several developers by testing the programs they are developing. So far, I have noticed that communication, organization, and attention to detail are crucial to software development. One project I have recently worked on is utilizing a third-party software studio to automate testing cases. This initiative will hopefully increase our testing capabilities in the future by reducing the time it takes to perform the many manual test cases we currently execute. From what I've seen at McTrans, there are plenty of challenges and opportunities for me to learn and grow, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.
