ESPERANZA HEALTH CENTER E-NEWS
MARCH 2022
March is National Women's History Month. The 2022 Women’s History theme, “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” is both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history. In celebration of this, we’re highlighting some of the incredible women at Esperanza Health Center who have continued to promote hope and healing through their work, in their homes, and in the world.

"HOW DO YOU STRIVE TO PROMOTE HOPE/HEALING
THROUGH YOUR WORK AT ESPERANZA?"
MARQUITA FARMER
Director of Human Resources
"In my role at EHC, my desire is to help cultivate a culture of care and wellbeing for everyone who walks through our doors. This includes, especially, our staff. When our staff are loved and cared for well, that extends in immeasurable ways to how our patients and community are loved and cared for."
AMY LIAO, DDS
Lead Dentist
"I strive to promote hope through prayer - praying for renewed hope in my own heart/mind, asking God for strength and guidance, and asking God to reveal the hope of Jesus' resurrection power to others. I strive to promote healing by encouraging flossing, picking up litter, and supporting the arts."

CHARLENE CHEN, MD
Kensington Site Medical
Director & Family Physician
"God is at work here, and I desire to participate in His restorative work as a clinician leader by practicing high quality holistic primary care. This includes holding sacred each individual moment with each patient, as well as growing in understanding the culture and dynamics of our community, how they interplay with our society at large, and what it means that the Kingdom of God is here to bring healing, restoration, and justice."
OMAIRA OSORIO
Clinical Supervisor
"I strive to promote hope and healing at Esperanza, at home, and in my community by delivering Christ-centered and compassionate care to patients, and spending quality time with family and friends. It is fulfilling for me to be able to integrate faith and practice and be able to nurture the spiritual growth of patients, team members, and the diverse group of people around me."
ROSALIND WILLIFORD

"We are all here for a specific purpose and reason. I strive to promote hope and healing by fostering an environment of inclusion and encouraging others to remain true to their gifts and calling. 'For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.
1 Corinthians 3:9' "

LIZ VARGAS
Operations and Benefits Coordinator
"I strive to promote hope and healing through my work at Esperanza by loving on all staff members and taking opportunities to sit and care for those around me who may be hurting. I hope to be a light to every person I encounter in the hallways by greeting them with a smile."

"I strive to promote hope and healing by practicing being present to those around me, sharing the gifts that God has given me, and by striving to learn from them and to see God's work in them. We all need each other."

Spring 2022 Staff Retreat
Examining the Death & Resurrection of Lazarus
Last week, staff from all three Esperanza sites gathered together at Vietnamese Alliance Church in Juniata Park for our Spring Staff Retreat! We enjoyed an afternoon of fellowship, worship, and heard testimonies from a few staff members. Building on the scripture readings from our Fall 2021 Staff Retreat, we continued to meditate on the passage from John 11:1-45 about the death and resurrection of Lazarus and heard an encouraging message from Pastor Bruce Nguyen, Head Pastor of Vietnamese Alliance Church.
Later that afternoon, staff headed over to Kensington for department meetings and to tour our new Community Health and Wellness building — set to open in Summer 2022. During this time, staff had the opportunity to pray over the new building and sign scriptures on the exposed beams that will soon be covered up by drywall. That day ended with a special surprise provided by the HR Team — free ice cream cones from Mister Softee!
