Spotlight: Mental Health and Well-Being in Higher Education

Supporting the mental health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff at institutions of higher education (IHE) is essential for creating safe and supportive learning environments. According to the Student Mental Health Landscape Survey, more than 80 percent of college students are experiencing some level of emotional struggle, with more than 1 in 4 students reporting significant difficulties. College faculty are also feeling the strain associated with the mental health needs of their students. A Healthy Minds Network Faculty/Staff Survey found that almost half of surveyed faculty reported that supporting students with mental and emotional health needs has taken a toll on their own mental health.

IHEs play a key role in supporting mental health and wellness within their communities. The resources below can help college administrators, faculty, and staff foster a campus culture that supports the mental health, success, and well-being of both students and staff.
