Hidden Treasure and the Night Sky | August 25 | 6:00 - 10:00pm
Institute of Science members are invited to explore the Treasure! exhibit, for FREE, before it’s gone! The Hidden Treasure and the Night Sky is an event that explores the different types of treasure from around the world while also providing many hands-on activities to try, along with:

  • A scavenger hunt for the whole family!
  • Planetarium Shows (Live Sky Tour) 
  • Tutankhamun’s Fireball – the Mystery of the Desert Glass (A dynamic presentation from the Institute’s Curator of Earth and Space Sciences); guests will have the chance to touch a piece of desert glass! 

Seating is limited in the planetarium and the auditorium and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. 
Treasure! Exhibit | Closes September 4!
Come see the Treasure! before it’s gone. This traveling exhibit immerses you into the world of treasure hunting. You will have the opportunity to see artifacts from the Institute’s private collections and great finds discovered in the Detroit River. Plan your visit today and enjoy the excitement of exploration.

Treasure! is open during regular museum hours and has an additional cost, $3 - $5 per person, in addition to general museum admission. Treasure! Is presented by Flagstar Bank.
Women Rock Science | Tickets on sale now!
Join us ✨in-person ✨ for our 5th annual Women Rock Science gala. This year's event will take place on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Our women-led fundraising event aims to celebrate women in STEAM and ignite curiosity in children. Proceeds from the event will help bring more STEAM programming, delivered by Cranbrook Institute of Science educators, to students in underserved communities throughout Michigan.  Tickets start at $100. Sponsorship opportunities are available. 
Celestial Events
Perseids Meteor Shower | Peaks August 12 & 13
Although the nearly full Moon this year will block the dimmer meteors, the Perseids are so bright and numerous that it may still be a decent show. The best viewing will be from a dark location.

Saturn at Opposition | August 14 
The ringed planet will be at its closest approach to Earth, and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Saturn and its moons.
