SUMMER

TWO-MINUTE READ EDITION

JULY & AUGUST, 2024

It's summer, and we've all got better things to do than read Newsletters, let alone write them. So here's what you need to know in two minutes.

Super Pantry Update

It took a bit longer than anticipated to get the necessary permits, but we are making up for lost time! The demolition and framing are complete, and our electrical and alarm system contractors will be onsite this week. There's a lot more to be done, but we are getting there.

Six Days Left to Double Your Impact!

A generous Daily Bread donor has offered to match up to $20,000 in donations towards completing the super pantry. But you must act by August 31st! Many thanks to those who have already responded so generously - we are more than halfway towards collecting all that $20,000. Click the button to see the very latest update - and perhaps even donate. Or send the link to your money-bags friends and relatives, or post on your socials. Whatever works!

Books, Books, Books!

Over the summer, dedicated volunteers Jill Immerman and Bob Espinosa have been handing out children's books kindly donated by the Friends of Danbury Library. We are excited to continue this commitment to reading and book ownership by welcoming the Read To Grow Bookmobile during our September 27 distribution. The Bookmobile provides a magical space where children (especially pre-schoolers) can select their own books - donated by folks just like you!

More books: Little Passports Gallery, Pt. 2

In our last Newsletter, we included some photos of happy Little Passports recipients. We can't resist including a few more here.

Little Passports suitcases come with lots of books to read

Big sis seems a little happier about the suitcase than her little brother.

We've had so much fun handing these out!

And In Other News...

We welcomed State Senator Julie Kushner to the super pantry. Note to self: that wallpaper is gonna have to go.

It seems like quite a while since we featured our hard-working truck unloading team. So here they are, hardly working.

Volunteer Coordinator(s) Needed...

and Watch Your Inbox

Two of our amazing volunteer coordinators are hanging up their boots. Elizabeth Day and Anne Gilson are very generously stepping aside to let others have a go at this much-coveted role. The perks of the job are just too many to list here, so why not click the button to learn more? In the meantime, let's all give Anne and Elizabeth a virtual round of applause for performing this vital role.

I'm Interested In Being A Coordinator

If volunteer coordinating isn't your thing, then at least keep a close eye on your inbox for a very important email coming soon about super pantry staffing.

Speaking of Volunteer Coordinators...

Volunteer Coordinator extraordinaire Karen Pricken brought along her London-based granddaughters Charlotte and Isabelle to a couple of recent "Senior Shopping" distributions. They jumped right in to help, and were a huge hit with our senior guests.

Thank you, young ladies, for taking time out from your vacation to help those in need!

No Distribution on Tuesday, September 3

The Labor Day holiday means we will not get a Food Bank delivery for our September 3 distribution. And anyway, volunteers need a break too! Thank you for everything you do.

You are all caught up.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
