Notes from
the LYS Board of Directors
|
|
|
Greetings LYS Families,
Congratulations to our students and music directors on an
outstanding
Fall concert!
They all put in a tremendous amount of hard work, and the progress over the course of just a few weeks has set a high bar for the remainder of the season!
Thanks also to all the volunteers
who helped out at the concert with ticketing, staffing the doors, and providing refreshments.
I am pleased to announce that the LYS board leadership transition from last season has been completed. At the October board meeting I accepted the board's nomination to continue in the role of president on a full-time basis. I appreciate the board's confidence in me and look forward to continued collaboration in achieving the goals and vision of our music directors.
On that note,
we are still looking for additional board and committee members.
Whether you are new to LYS, or have already been around the block a few times,
everyone brings valuable talents and perspectives to the group.
If you would like to explore opportunities to help shepherd this great organization, please feel free to contact me directly for more information.
Thank you for your continued support of Longmont Youth Symphony!
Take care,
Jon King
LYS Board President

Notes
🎵
from Mrs. Schmitt,
LYSE Music Director
|
Dear LYS Family,
As fall progresses, we begin to reflect on the year and think about everything that we are
thankful
for. Personally, I am incredibly thankful for the privilege of working with such talented students, and can't wait for another great Notes & Noodles event, full of fellowship, delicious food, and of course, great music! Along those lines, here are just a few of many reasons to be thankful for the presence of music in your life (excerpted from pianocentralstudios.com):
- Entertainment: How much of your life includes some kind of music? Think about while you’re in the car, at church, at home working—many people have music playing in the background. Beyond background music, how many of you enjoy attending live performances?
- Family time: Bonding together as a family around music creates a lifetime of memories. Whether you sing together on car trips or gather around the piano during the holiday season, music brings people together like few other things can.
- Sharing with others: Being able to play an instrument or sing opens the door for you to be able to share joy and happiness with others who need it. Playing in retirement homes, at church, or for someone you know who is ill not only blesses the audience, but proves to be a personal blessing as well.
- Personal satisfaction/expression: Ever experienced one of those times when you were so overcome by an emotion that you couldn’t speak? Music expresses those emotions that you can’t communicate in a way that nothing else can.
- Developmental aid: The benefits of musical study frequently appear in articles, but are you thankful for the ways that music study helps you/your child develop? From reading to math, from social skills to fine motor development, music helps you/your child achieve your/their greatest potential. Be thankful for it!
Warmest regards,
Mrs. Schmitt

There are
two skulls in Haydn’s
tomb. His head was stolen by phrenologists and a replacement skull was put in his tomb. In 1954, the real skull was restored but the substitute was not removed.
Halloween fun fact...
