Tree replanting scheduled on Cornell Road

Street trees will be replanted on both sides of the Cornell Road from Saltzman Road to Dale Avenue starting Monday (June 3).

The replanting is part of the Cornell Road Sidewalk Repair project. Trees originally planted as part of a 2007 improvement project grew too large, damaging the sidewalk and tree grates. As part of the project, we will replace over 3,200 square feet of sidewalk panels.

We consulted an arborist when planning this project, who determined that removing the trees was necessary to keep our sidewalks in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Cutting only the roots that were impacting the sidewalk would kill the trees.

The trees will be removed and replaced with trees from our approved street tree list, which has been updated to focus on species that are suitable for the roadside environment.

We expect the project to be completed by June 19. The schedule is subject to change.
