Community Prayer

This Memorial Weekend, Hands Across Chicago will again unite ALL the 77 Chicagoland neighborhoods in prayer.

Join us in lifting our neighborhood, Ashburn, in prayer to the Lord.

Let's celebrate the beautiful tapestry of cultures that makes Ashburn unique, let's pray for continued peace and safety on our streets as the summer months begin & let's ignite a renewed passion for Christ among our neighbors.

Let us come together on Saturday, May 25th @ 10am on the corner of 79th and Lawndale and raise our voices in prayer for Ashburn!

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

Sunday, May 19, 2024

Isaiah 29: 1-24

1) 29:1–8 What are the main points being made about Jerusalem (Ariel) in these verses? How and why will God change the situation?

2) 29:9–12 Compare these verses with 6:9–10. How do they confirm what God told Isaiah at His call?

3) 29:13–14 Here again God stresses cause and effect. What will He do, and why?

4) 29:15–19 What evidences of the foolishness of trying to outwit God do you see in verses 15–16? How will God reverse this situation (vv. 17–19)?

5) 29:20–21 What impact will God’s intervention have on the social climate of the city? Why are these examples the focus of the current hypocrisy (cf. v. 13)?

6) 29:22–24 Examine the marks of God’s future blessing on the true spiritual children of Abraham. What do they teach us about how God would have Hs believing people live in the present?

Application: Read 29:13–14 in the light of 1 Corinthians 1:18–25. How are we tempted in our Christian lives and in our churches to depend on man’s wisdom, and not on God’s? What does this passage show us of the way God helps us depend on him instead?

PRAYER PLAN AND FOCUS

Sun., 5.19 - Sermon: Our One Security: God's Sure Foundation

Scripture focus: Isaiah 29:1-24

Mon., 5.20 - Read Isaiah 29:1-10

God progressively brings Judah lower and lower and lower, before turning His attention to bringing Judah's enemies down in humiliation. Why is it often necessary for humiliation to precede devotion to God?

Related Scriptures: Isaiah 30:30; Ezekiel 43:15-16; Luke 19:43

Tue., 5.21 - Read Isaiah 29:11-12

How is the Scripture frequently like a sealed scroll to people? Why is that their fault, and not the fault of the Bible?

Related Scriptures: Deuteronomy 29:4; Daniel 12:4; Romans 11:7-8; Revelation 5:1

Wed., 5.22- Read Isaiah 29:13-14

Why is Isaiah 29:13 on of the most important verses in the Bible on worship?

Related Scriptures: Matthew 15:8-9; Mark 7:6-7; 1 Corinthians 1:19

Thur., 5.23 - Read Isaiah 29:15-21

What awesome words of grace do you see cascading in verses 17-21? How do these promises relate to our Christian lives?

Related Scripture: Amos 5:10; Matthew 11:5; Luke 7:22; Romans 9:20

Fri., 5.24 - Read Isaiah 29:22-24

For exiles seeing their children was nothing short of miraculous because exiled families never got back together. What miracle would it take to produce in you the devotion of verses 23-24?

Related Scripture: Isaiah 45:17; 54:4, 13; Matthew 6:9

Sat., 5.25 - Reflection

FCCC GRADUATES CELEBRATION + SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Calling All 2024 Graduates!

On Sunday, June 9th, during worship, we will recognize the individuals of our congregation who are 2024 graduates from Kindergarten, 8th grade, High School, College & Graduate School.

Please complete this form if you would like us to include your graduate in our celebration.

Thank you.

The Paul Schille Scholarship

The Paul Schille Scholarship is a scholarship program for ACTIVE members of FCCC who are continuing their education in college and beyond. It is named after our own Paul Schille, or "Uncle Paul" as he was affectionally called.

Originally, the scholarship was limited to those who were training for vocational ministry at a Restoration Movement affiliated school. However, about 20 years ago the scope of the scholarship was expanded to include members going to college or graduate school in a wide range of areas. The student could study ministry, or biology, or teaching, or political science, etc. and receive a scholarship award if they could share how they saw using their degree to some kind of ministry context. Greater consideration is still given to those who are preparing for vocational ministry, but we are happy that we are able to help other students fulfill their life dreams.

The church has helped many students through this scholarship program, and will continue to help others.

The application deadline for the Schille Scholarship is June 15, 2024.

Mother's Day Bagel Buffet

We were so happy to see everyone who came out a little earlier last Sunday for the Mother's Day Bagel & Cream Cheese Buffet that was prepared. We hope that everyone enjoyed the food and the fellowship and that your Mother's Day was a beautiful one.
