This week I’d like to talk about our power to elevate others.
Today’s quote looks at our ability to raise up others simply by asking for their advice. Particularly if you are a leader (including parents!), I hope this resonates. Too often leaders believe they must have all the answers and that requesting advice, or assistance is a sign of weakness. The opposite is true: when we ask our colleagues and staff for their advice and opinions on key organizational matters, we show we value them and respect their experience and desire to have an impact. Whether or not we take their advice is irrelevant, it is the asking that matters. But the best part about asking for advice is how often you will get information and ideas that you had not considered that can make your decision better or different than what you would have done on your own.
Think about how you can include more requests for advice in your decision-making process. Those you ask will feel great and you will likely make better decisions.
