On May 15th, the staff of RHD's Christine Gibson Peer Support House (CGPSH) attended House at the Hill Day for Mental Health at the state capitol steps in Harrisburg, PA. The staff took part in a rally and march to advocate for more mental health funding and increase awareness of mental health initiatives in PA, as part of Mental Health Awareness Month. CGPSH aims to reduce justice involvement for people with mental health illness by decreasing their length of stay in jail or in a hospital, minimizing reincarceration, and improving connections to services. The program offers residents the opportunity to be empowered and guided by Certified Peer Specialists who have lived experience with mental health illness, substance use, and/or legal system involvement. |
