February 2019
FIT TO RECOVER IS A NONPROFIT GYM AND COMMUNITY CENTER FOR PEOPLE IN RECOVERY FROM SUBSTANCE MISUSE DISORDER. WE STRIVE TO CREATE A SAFE PLACE WHERE OUR MEMBERS CONNECT AND THRIVE THROUGH FITNESS, NUTRITION, COMMUNITY SERVICE AND CREATIVE ARTS.

At FTR, We Lead with Our Hearts
This February, we've planned many things to warm your heart, to get your heart pumping, to open your heart, and share your heart.
Warm Your Heart...
Nutrition/Food to Recover
FREE FEBRUARY!
This month our Community Meal Prep is FREE if you have not tried it. If you have joined us before, you still get it half price- just $10!
Join us in the Food to Recover kitchen. It is SO simple: all you do is bring 5 tupperware, show up and get ready to cook with friends, and leave with 5 flavorful, different, healthy meals for the week! All ingredients are provided! You don't want to miss this opportunity!

Thank you to Smith's Foods for helping this to be possible! Sign up at the gym or email Cassidy@fit2recover.org to reserve your spot. They fill up quick, so hurry today!
Cook With Your Valentine!
On Monday, February 11th from 5:30-7:30, grab your friend or valentine and join us in the FTR kitchen for a night of cooking, connecting, and eating! For $20, you will receive all of the ingredients to make a 3 course meal for both of you. And YOU get to choose what you make. See the menu options and get tickets HERE.
Get Your Heart Pumping...
Fitness
SQUAT IT LIKE ITS HOT!
Do you want to improve strength, mobility, and overall health with your FTR community?
FTR's Kettlebell Squat Challenge starts February 10th with a FREE workshop from 1 PM - 2 PM. Then, pay $10 to buy-in to the challenge.
You will need to show up to FTR 4 times a week and complete the squat programming.
The challenge will end March 9th at 2 PM with a test day. Your friends will be there to support you and you will get a T-shirt!
Let's see how much stronger we can get together (we promise it's not as hard as it looks!)
Did you know FTR does sober sports, too?
We have soccer, volleyball, and softball teams! Ask our front desk about ways to get involved!
Open Your Heart...
Creative Expression
Express Yourself Through Music
Our members have been overcoming their fear of the mic, by writing and recording songs, with help from live instruments. Music can be a moving experience; it can consume you, help you feel present, and help to give you and our community a voice.

Our talented community came together to pitch THEIR idea for the new FTR T-Shirts!
Keep an eye out for who's design will show up on our Spring Swag!
FTR Paint Night with Gypsy Soul Tattoo
Ever wanted to tap into your creativity but not sure how? This is the perfect opportunity!
Come down for an afternoon of painting taught by our friends and artists from Gypsy Soul Tattoo.
$10 suggested donations. Sign up at the gym!

Share Your Heart...
Community Service
We played Bingo, Uno, Cards, and even painted nails. We always love when we have entire families show up to volunteer together.
And, volunteering as a community brings us closer to each other and helps us step outside of ourselves.
January Outreach: Game Night at Rosewood Assisted Living
Dozens of FTR volunteers got their game faces on to visit with clients at the Rosewood Assisted Living facility to try and bring some light and cheer to their evening.
BLESSING BAG SERVICE OUTREACH

This Month's outreach will be held February 16th at 2:00 PM at Pioneer Park. For this outreach, we are teaming up with Taylorsville High School Junior Army ROTC Program. We will be meeting at the park to hand out blessing bags, clothing donations, and food to those suffering from homelessness. We will be accepting donations until February 15th. Contact Crystal at  crystal@fit2recover.org  for any questions and if you are interested in volunteering.
Welcome to the FTR Fam, Vachel!
We are SO excited and grateful to welcome Vachel Carter to our team as our new Grant Writer. Vachel will use her background in research and science to help us secure funding for our programming. She received her Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Utah in 2016 and recently completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in Prague, Czech Republic. Vachel loves to be outdoors camping, hiking, climbing, and snowboarding. "Being apart of the FTR community brings me so much joy and I can't wait to do my part in helping FTR succeed in fulfilling their mission, " she states. We can't wait, either!
FTR Member Highlight: Michelle Fitts

Michelle has been a valued member for over two years now. Her willingness to always work hard and help wherever is needed is exactly what we are all about at FTR. She shows up consistently and is a great example of persevering when times are tough, showing up and doing your best. We appreciate you Michelle!

(Frank, we appreciate you, too!)
