Helping Kids Lead Healthier Lives

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, a time when we can learn about ways to prevent obesity and promote physical and mental health in children. Heritage Valley’s Club 5210, in conjunction with local school districts and YMCAs, spreads the message about health-promoting behaviors and helps parents learn how they can aid in supporting children’s health by following these daily guidelines:

5 or more servings of fruits & vegetables

2 or fewer hours of recreational screen time

1 or more hours of physical activity

0 sweetened beverages

Club 5210 is a 10-week health and wellness program, designed for children in grades 3 – 5, that takes place after school. The program is designed to promote a healthier lifestyle by focusing on the importance of physical activity and healthy eating. To learn more about the program, or to see if your child’s school participates, please contact Club 5210, part of our Community Health Services program, at 412-749-4252.

COVID Corner...

Pfizer Bivalent Vaccine Available

Heritage Valley has the newly approved and updated Pfizer bivalent vaccines. Bivalent vaccines are those that target both the most recent Omicron subvariants, knows as BA.4 and BA.5, as well as the original SARS-CoV-2 strain. According to the CDC, being up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccines is the best way to protect against severe illness and hospitalization associated with COVID-19. Those eligible are encouraged to receive one dose of the updated bivalent booster at least two months after their last vaccine or booster. You are up-to-date with your COVID-19 vaccines once you have completed a COVID-19 primary series and received the most recent booster dose recommended for you by the CDC. The CDC also recommends getting a flu shot in addition to your COVID-19 vaccines.

We are offering the Pfizer Bivalent boosters at our ConvenientCare Walk-In Clinics in Center Township on Tuesdays and in Robinson Township on Thursdays for those ages 12 and older. Boosters are available by appointment only
