Barb, Concierge

Chippewa ConvenientCare

“Barb always goes above and beyond for coworkers and patients!” This is according to one of our patients from the Chippewa ConvenientCare, where Barb works as a Concierge. We agree!

Barb welcomes each patient with a friendly smile, and loves being in the “helping people” profession. She is a caretaker by nature, so being in health care is a perfect fit. She genuinely cares about people and wants to help them feel better. And, she cares about her coworkers (her “work family”) as much as her patients.

Barb knows that everyone’s time is valuable, and is happy to help with the registration process so that patients can be seen as quickly as possible. You will also find Barb assisting patients to and from their vehicles, or taking them for lab or imaging procedures. Basically, Barb does whatever is needed to make sure that our patients have a positive, timely visit!

Barb’s optimistic and cheerful attitude is definitely appreciated by both patients and her fellow employees. Her main goal, and one that she strives for each day, is to interact positively with all people. Based on our feedback, Barb is achieving that goal!

Relief for Patients Suffering from GERD

Many people experience symptoms of heartburn or acid reflux now and then, and over-the-counter antacids often provide relief. However, for some people, heartburn is frequent and severe, affecting eating, sleeping and overall quality of life. This could be a symptom of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), a digestive disorder that may cause the following symptoms:

  • A sour taste in the mouth
  • Regurgitation (when stomach contents back up into the mouth)
  • Nausea
  • Burping
  • Bloating
  • Dry cough or excessive throat clearing
  • Sore throat, hoarseness or laryngitis

The week of November 19 – 25 is designated as National GERD Awareness Week, a time when we encourage patients suffering from GERD to seek treatment. Without treatment, GERD may lead to serious complications over time. Prescription medications are often effective in reducing symptoms; however, for those who do not respond to medications, Dr. Eric Boyle of HVMG Surgical Associates offers an alternative ... an innovative, minimally invasive procedure using the LINX® Reflux Management System.

The LINX® device is a small flexible band of magnetic beads (about the size of a quarter) that is wrapped around a weakened lower esophageal sphincter, the muscle between the stomach and esophagus that acts as the body’s natural barrier to reflux. The LINX® band prevents acid from rising up from the stomach by opening and closing before and after a patient swallows food, just as a healthy lower esophageal sphincter would. The procedure, performed at Heritage Valley Beaver or Heritage Valley Sewickley, typically takes less than an hour.

Dr. Boyle has offices in Sewickley and Bridgewater. To schedule an appointment, please call 724-773-6400
