Introducing new Head

of School School Brian Goodbar

Dear Heritage Community – In a short time my wife and I will be pulling into North Liberty and in no time, we will find ourselves into another school year! I am very excited to get started (after some time to get settled, acclimated, and recharged of course!) and learn even more about the community of HCS, the students, the families, the history, and the plans God has for us going forward. We will be going through the accreditation process in the 23-24 school year which will provide an opportunity to celebrate where we are thriving and what we can focus on for improvement.

With the adoption of the Educational Savings Accounts by the State of Iowa, we are looking at what opportunities...

A Faithful God in a Time of Transition
From the Board of Directors

If you are like me, you desire consistency in your life. We prefer to eat at the same restaurants, maintain our exercise routines (or lack thereof), and habitually re-read our favorite books. As we conclude the current academic year and begin looking forward to 2023-2024 at Heritage, we see little consistency on the horizon, however. This upcoming year we will be learning the new language of educational savings accounts (or ESAs), installing two new school board members (Scott Kallemeyn and Brad Beane), adapting to a new board president (yours truly), on-boarding several new teachers and staff, and welcoming a new head of school (Mr. Brian Goodbar).

As we were discussing these changes at a recent school board meeting, I was surprised to find that...

“I am looking forward to my new position at Heritage. I think it is essential for each child to engage in activities that not only allow them to develop and learn new things, but also encourage a fun atmosphere! God has instilled in me a passion for connecting with others and I believe through this position I can show these students their individuality is not only appreciated by me but loved and cherished by God.

Congratulations Class of 2023

Teaching for Transformation

Mr. Ellerie's 6th Grade Project

This spring, our middle school History and Bible teacher, Matt Ellerie, was featured in the Teaching for Transformation bulletin which is shared with a large network of Christian Schools. We encourage you to read the feature below and also click on the link to see the details of his project with our 6th grade History students. Thank you Mr. Ellerie for your continued work and dedication with our students!

"Early adopter Matt Ellerie’s Deep Hope for his 6th grade students at Heritage Christian School is to connect God’s hand at work throughout history to our own story as we respond to God’s redemptive work. In studying ancient civilizations, the students noticed that there was a deeper story about the history of Ancient Israel than was covered in their textbook. Together, they set out to write their own version of Israel’s biblical story based on Scripture and the thread of Christ throughout history to share with our families and future classes. You are invited to check out this learning story rooted within the Storyline Remember to Respond."

The True Biblical Story of Jesus and Israel's History

Congratulations Dr. Gilbaugh!

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Gilbaugh (Interim Head of School) for being recognized as a 2023 Innovators in Education Award Winner. The Iowa City Area Business Partnership and Iowa City Area Development Group honored Dr. Gilbaugh with the Spark Award which is given to individuals who go above and beyond in order to create a learning environment where all students have a chance to succeed, and all instructors feel the freedom to innovate. Congratulations and thank you for your leadership at Heritage this year! What a blessing and honor!

Heritage Christian School exists to serve Christ by partnering with parents to provide biblically faithful, academically excellent education. The vision of Heritage Christian School is to be a leader in developing passionate life long learners committed to Christ.
