Reflections from Head of School Scott Montgomery

Love. Grace. Reasonableness.

I used those three words during our back to school in-service meeting with staff. I used them to discuss the kind of attitudes we would need to display this year, in what would undoubtedly be a year unlike anything we had seen before. Those words are still on the whiteboard in my office as a reminder of how we would need to live out this school year.

We knew this school year would require patience and kindness. We knew that we would need to bear each other’s burdens, and believe, hope and endure many things – the way love is described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

We knew we would need to be gracious, compassionate, and forgiving with one another (teachers as well as students) during a year that would likely challenge what we knew about education and schooling. Ephesians 4:32 gives us those instructions to show and extend grace to one another.

However, the word I most prize...
Join us in Praise!
From the Board of Directors
The Heritage Board has spent much time in prayer over the last year, seeking wisdom and direction for God’s will in moving Heritage forward as well as thanking Him for His continued provision. As the 2019-20 year came to a close, the Board was faced with a difficult enrollment and financial forecast. Over the summer we saw God increase enrollment, and as a result the financial picture began to look better as well. Due to the increased enrollment, we were able to give the Heritage staff two bonuses during the year. This was a blessing because we had made the difficult decision to freeze all salaries for the year when we passed the budget in the spring of 2020. We are thankful to be able to give the staff this support for their tireless work they put in daily throughout the year.

As we begin another year of planning, the Board is excited to welcome two new members, Tim Insko and Chad Hanneman, as well as welcome back Unyime Ituk for his second term. We want to thank Kristi Rotzoll and Andrew White for their service as they are leaving the Board this summer. We are looking ahead to where God takes Heritage next, trusting that He will provide wisdom and guidance as He always has. Please join us in praying to this end.
Congratulations!

This winter, the snow and hill down to the retention pond on our property provided hours of fun and entertainment at recess time.
HCS Staff - we reminded ourselves and our students often that even in circumstances and a year we may consider less than ideal, we can CHOOSE JOY because of what we have in Christ!

Welcome to our new staff member!

Kindergarten Teacher

I just recently graduated from Dordt University on May 7, 2021, with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood and Special Education. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in Dordt’s year long student teaching program, PDS (Professional Development School), and student taught in both Preschool and Kindergarten classrooms. When I was not student teaching or taking classes, I could be found doing homework, working, or hanging out with friends or family.

Dordt College/University has been my home...
