2024 Travel Show & August Social Event Recaps

It was great to see the many faces of GCSB Heritage Club members as you turned out in droves for our annual travel show and our August social event.

The travel show on Aug. 7 highlighted following opportunities for 2024:

  • Spectacular Spain & Picturesque Portugal, April 22–May 5
  • Columbia & Snake Rivers (Pacific Northwest riverboat cruise), Sept. 1–9
  • Magical New York Christmas, Dec. 9–13

We hosted our social event Aug. 23 in the Barnett Room of our Guthrie Center location, where we greeted new members and covered a variety of important safety and travel topics.

Door prizes & money bag:

  • Fall acorns: Mary Ann Heckman
  • Lotion/balm set: Jannis Hoobin
  • Warmies slippers: Cheryl Batschelet
  • Debora Linquist was the name drawn for the $350 money bag but was not present. The fourth quarter event’s drawing has $400 up for grabs!

Be sure to mark your calendars for the event we all look forward to every year — the Heritage Club Annual Dinner is slated for Nov. 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds Event Hall!

Fraud Awareness:

Disaster Relief Scams

Severe weather crises are a regular occurrence throughout the country, and folks’ generosity can make a world of difference. Unfortunately, where there are fundraisers for rebuilding communities, there are also enterprising criminals.

We’ve put together 3 tips to help ensure you get your donations into the hands of the folks in need.

  1. Research and donate to established and reputable charities with a track record of disaster relief efforts.
  2. Whenever possible, skip third-party platforms and give directly to the charity’s official website or donation portal.
  3. Before you give, verify the charity’s legitimacy by checking their registration status and reviews from trusted sources such as Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) Wise Giving Alliance, Charity Navigator, Charity Watch, or Candid. You can also try googling the name of the charity alongside words like “complaint,” “review,” or “scam.”

By taking these precautions, you can make sure your generosity brings genuine relief to communities affected by severe weather.

Your support makes a difference!

5 Tips for

Online Safety

  1. Lock down your online accounts. Create strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  2. Secure your home wi-fi network. Use a strong password and update your router’s firmware regularly.
  3. Protect your devices. Install antivirus software, keep software up to date, and use screen locks.
  4. Recognize phishing. Be cautious of suspicious emails and links. Verify sources before sharing information.
  5. Don’t skip your backups! Regularly back up your data to ensure you don’t lose critical information.

Connecting Communities:

AC/GC vs. Panorama Football Game

The Guthrie County State Bank team was again on hand for this year’s AC/GC–Panorama football matchup Sept. 8 in Guthrie Center.

We had a blast helping run concessions and providing free popcorn for football fans of all ages throughout the thrilling game!

The home team AC/GC Chargers edged out Panorama 55–44 in an exciting, high scoring affair we won’t soon forget.

It’s always a pleasure to gather in a space with the friends and neighbors of our community — especially for a friendly annual rivalry with bragging rights on the line!

We’re already looking forward to attending next year’s contest — and we’ll be sure to bring the popcorn!
