GOOGLE FIBER
IS COMING TO ATLANTA!
HERE'S WHAT ALL OUR BOARDS NEED TO KNOW!

Everyone is talking about Google Fiber coming to Atlanta. The system represents the most advanced technology for internet speeds with connections running up to 100 times faster. The original roll-out was in Kansas City. Four years later, Google's current plan for expansion includes five more metropolitan areas and Atlanta is on the list!

With all the buzz in town, many wonder what exactly makes this such big news? Basically, traditional DSL and Cable connections are copper based technology that use electricity to transmit data, while Fiber to the Home, or FTTH, is based on a fiber optic technology which uses light to transmit the data. The new cables are made from either plastic or glass which is not prone to electromagnetic interference like many metal cables. As a result, data can flow over great distances without degrading. The technology itself is in no way exclusive to Google and even though over 20% of the US population has access to fiber, we are still far behind a number of other countries.  The enormous capital expenditure and time required to set up the basic infrastructure is the primary delay.

Some of our boards have wondered, how does this affect our Association and current or future right of entry agreements.....

your Association's
financials

Understanding Accounts Payable
Heritage handles all of our association's accounts payable from a lock box system reducing error and ensuring all vendors are paid in a timely manner. Centralization increases efficiency and allows checks to be cut everyday. In addition, all information is available on Heritage EDGE, including scans of paid invoices. What many boards do not realize is that there is much more to accounts payable than simply processing invoices and writing checks.  We protect our associations from potential exposure to vendor related issues. Improper handling can lead to  fines, suits, penalties and damage claims, and certain simple procedures must be followed. Part of our responsibility is to make sure v endors are insured. In most cases we are looking not only for liability policies, but also workman's compensation. Heritage  also requires construction vendors to provide lien releases for any payments over $5,000. This form remains on record and is evidence that all invoices have been satisfied for both materials and labor.  Heritage also requires W-9s and sends out 1099's as required.
