Message from the President

Welcome to summer, and the July issue of ECF IMPACT!

I hope everyone had a happy July 4th and enjoyed a relaxing and fun holiday. This kick-off to summer celebrates a cherished value we share as a nation, and as individuals: independence.

Celebrating independence is something we do every day here at ECF. All our programs and services are designed to support our clients who have special needs in advancing their independence—their self-determination, self-expression and self-esteem. We empower them with Individualized education, supportive therapies, independent living skills and work training, employment and residential services to live their most fulfilling lives.

Across our programs this summer, our young children, students, and adults are exploring, making new friends, discovering new possibilities, and having lots of fun! We are dedicated to providing enriching and rewarding experiences and opportunities that we know help to develop independence, critical skills, and the joy of lifelong learning--throughout the summer and all yearlong—thanks to all of our supporters and partners who share in our vision.

No one reaches their highest level of fulfillment and success unsupported. The families, children and adults we serve face and surmount an array of challenges supported by skilled ECF staff, our dedicated donors and volunteers, innovative and committed community partnersthe extended family found at ECF.

Family, friends, community. As we enjoy summer, I’m grateful for and celebrating our ECF family and the joy we share together inspiring and advancing the hopes, dreams, and futures of the families and clients we serve.

If you are just learning about ECF, there are so many ways to join with us in our mission to empower children and adults with special needs! Please read on for news and information about fun upcoming events where you can meet some of our incredibly talented clients, and other friends, like you, dedicated to making a difference. I look forward to seeing you!

With gratitude and best wishes for a healthy and happy summer,

Warmly,

Veronica Arteaga, LCSW

President & CEO

San Pedro Art Center Establishes Artist Advisory Board

The ECF Art Center San Pedro recently hosted their inaugural Artist Advisory Election Day.

Artist candidates diligently prepared their speeches for the momentous occasion and elected a Director and Secretary for a one-year term to collaborate with Art Center staff, ensuring artists’ needs are prioritized. Six passionate candidates delivered compelling two-minute speeches to an enthusiastic audience of 42 peer artists. The event featured an official ballot and ballot box, and special “I Voted” stickers designed by the Art Center San Pedro community featuring their beloved character mascot, Kirby.

After a spirited election, Ricardo Villarreal was elected Committee Director and Aaryan Maes was elected as Committee Secretary. These newly elected officials will serve as advocates for their peers, working closely with studio staff. Congratulations to Ricardo and Aaryan on their new roles!

This month ECF Early Start Adams Center teamed up with LA County and 24 Hour Home Care to provide important information to client families about available additional respite care hours for children with special needs. Parents and guardians were able to receive packets of information and details and had an opportunity to ask questions of staff from 24 Hour Home Care on-site at the center.

ECF Early Start is dedicated to providing resources and information to families of young children in the community who are challenged with developmental delays or disabilities to support their childrens’ early intervention and developmental growth and success.

Heritage Society Supporters Ensure Bright Futures for Children and Adults with Special Needs

Flexible options allow you to be a champion for those we serve

As a member of the ECF family, you can make a gift that costs you nothing today while ensuring that we continue helping children, students and adults with special needs for years to come.

These easy and flexible options allow you to be a champion for those we serve:

Making a gift in your will or trust. When you name ECF in your will or living trust, you’ll feel good about your contribution now and part with your assets later. By designating a percentage instead of a dollar amount, your gift will always remain proportionate to the size of your estate.

Making your retirement plan assets your legacy. When you name ECF as a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets, you don’t part with a single penny today, and you protect your estate from taxes later. When ECF receives your retirement funds, we pay no income tax. However, assets given to your family can be taxed as much as 37%, significantly reducing the amount of your hard-earned dollars they’ll be able to enjoy.

If you'd like to learn more about how to benefit ECF with a planned gift, contact Maxine Moshay at mmoshay@ecf.net or 310-773-9435. Additionally, we recommend seeking the advice of your financial or legal planner.

EXCEPTIONAL PARTNERS

ECF thanks the Johnny Carson Foundation for their support for the objectives of our Kayne Eras School.

ECF’s WASC-accredited nonpublic Kayne Eras School provides special education for TK-12 students who have learning, emotional and developmental challenges. All of our educators are committed to the idea that every child can learn—and with individualized support and care, we help each child develop their confidence and unique potential so they can succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Ways to Give
