Midwest Flood Relief Needs Our Help

Recently storms have flooded parts of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa, swamping some areas with as much as 18 inches of water. Midwest Mission and UMCOR have been on the ground helping. Learn more.

How to help:

• Pray for those who are affected by the flooding, and for the first responders and disaster relief teams who are providing help.
• Give to UMCOR: U.S. Disaster Response through your church: Write a check to your local church and write, “UMCOR: US Disaster Response” in the memo line. Churches can give through the NIC Apportionment process.
• Donate flood bucket supplies to Midwest Mission or one of the NIC permanent sites (see the list here.)

Volunteer for Cong. Development Event

The UMC School of Congregational Development will take place in Schaumburg, Aug. 4-7. Greet and help prepare for the hundreds of UMs from around the country who will participate. Show them Northern Illinois hospitality!

We’ve heard from a handful of churches in our conference about the ways their VBS kids have been raising money and doing good for others. If you have a VBS story to share, we’d love to feature it in our next issue. We are also looking to highlight Mission Trips in the NIC district eNews later this summer. We need your photos! For more than 45 years, Discipleship Ministries has been on the journey of making disciples for Jesus Christ. One of 13 international agencies of The United Methodist Church, Discipleship Ministries helps local church, district, and conference leaders fulfill the shared dream of making world-changing disciples. Thanks to your congregation’s World Service Fund support, Discipleship Ministries’ staff produces written and audiovisual resources to support the work of people and congregations; and they provide training, education, and skill development seminars and workshops.

Do you have news to share?

We are always looking for stories of what is happening in your church.  We welcome articles from churches highlighting ministries, outreach, and missions that tell the story of being vital Christians. Events considered should be of conference-wide appeal and United Methodist-related. 

District eNews are sent out the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. Please submit stories and events by end of business on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. Space is limited. Stories of fewer than 250 words are preferred. Submissions will be edited at the discretion of Communications staff. Information can be emailed to communications@umcnic.org.
