Join Us For Quest, our

July Adult Education Series

Whether you travel far away or see your local surroundings as if for the first time, pilgrimage has long been a spiritual practice, and “journey” a deeply-felt metaphor for our spiritual lives. “Quest” comes from the Latin root meaning, “ask, seek.” This four - week series will encourage us to open ourselves more fully to the curiosity and wonder, reflection and transformation, that travelers – not merely tourists – experience when they choose to immerse themselves in soul-widening adventures.

All adults are invited to join in the Ministry Center at 10:15am each Sunday in July for food, fellowship, and fun learning as we travel through July together.

Sunday, July 7 - Leaving Home with Rev. Barbara Day Miller

Sunday, July 14 - The Encounter with Bishop Kenneth Carder

Sunday, July 21 - The Reflection with Dr. Fred Edie

Sunday, July 28 - Returning Home with Garlinda Burton

What a beautiful day! Thanks to the many, many people who brought "Let's Go to the Movies" to life this past Sunday evening: the Isle of Hope Choir, the Anchor Band, soloists, guest musicians, our sound and AV team, Isle of Hope's wonderful Missions Committee, the Isle of Hope staff, and the list could go on and on... As Lacy and I complete year one in Savannah, we feel so blessed to be part of the wonderful community at Isle of Hope UMC. Our hearts are full, and we are thankful.

South Georgia Annual Conference Update

The 160th session of the South Ga Annual Conference of the UMC was held in Tifton, GA, June 2-4, 2024. Our Bishop, David Graves, presided over an uplifting conference that was filled with hopeful messages for our future. Though our grief and loss over the past few years was acknowledged, we are not a people who remain in the past. We instead look forward and upward as we live into the life God has called us into as United Methodists. Ours is a bright future if we remain steadfast and faithful, with our eyes focused on Christ!

The theme for this conference was “One Matters,” as it is expressed in Luke 15 with the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost (prodigal) son. Jesus said he came to seek and save the lost, including the least, the last, and the lonely. Every person matters to Jesus, and because of that, every person should matter to us. This can be difficult at times, but Jesus calls us to “do hard better,” which was another theme of the conference. We do this by leaning into Jesus, loving Him, and loving others better. When we show others that they matter to God and to us, then others see the light of Christ in us and they can be won for Christ.

We were privileged to see our own Shannon Baxter's ordination as Deacon in Full Connection, along with three Elders. Shannon is the former IOHUMC Director of Missions and Outreach, now serving at West End UMC in Nashville, TN.

Throughout the conference, we had “One Matters Moments,” giving us creative, fresh expressions on how to reach the lost, often in ways that look different from how we may have reached them in the past. We encourage you to take a look at these creative ideas at www.sgaumc.org/one-matters. In summary, this was an uplifting conference full of hope for the future. Let us embrace that future! Everyone matters to God, and everyone matters to us. Let us rise to the challenge, and “Do Hard Better!"
