Updates from Your Trustees Committee

LED Lighting Project

Your Trustees Committee reviewed two proposals to make the lighting of our facilities more energy efficient. We approved the one that provided greater savings estimates on utility costs, lower maintenance costs, and a five-year warranty on new fixtures. We may find additional savings on up-front costs through GA Power due to charitable giving of IOHUMC. Local family business owner and church member, Tommy Rushing, has graciously offered to consult with our Trustees on this project and to make a generous financial contribution toward our initial costs.

Sanctuary Window Replacement Project

The Trustees have approved the necessary replacement of 10 total windows to address the wood rot in our Sanctuary. The windows have been ordered and should arrive within 8-12 weeks. We will continue to update the congregation on the overall timeline as we know more, but the use of the Sanctuary should not be affected.

The total cost per window is approximately $10,000.00. While we do have restricted funds for this project and have already received a generous gift from a church member, the Trustees and the Finance Committee would like to offer the congregation an opportunity to be part of this important work for current and future IOHUMC generations.

We are considering a plaque that lists those who contribute to the overall project. Perhaps you would like to “Sponsor a Window,” to include an appropriate small plaque honoring or memorializing a loved one. For questions about how to be involved, please contact Marla Grady.

Updates from Your Staff-Parish Relations Committee

Please join us in welcoming Brooke Cox, our Student Ministries summer intern beginning May 29th. Brooke is from Memphis, TN, and just completed her freshman year at Tulane University where she is studying Art History and Anthropology.

Brooke works for the Center for Public Service and is an enthusiastic member of the ballroom dance and gardening clubs, as well as their student-run food pantry.

Brooke is excited to be at IOHUMC this summer and looks forward to getting to see God work in all!

We are excited to announce that our very own, Peyton Lewis, will be serving our church in a unique way this summer. Peyton just completed her freshman year at Auburn University where she is majoring in Commercial Music and Voice, with a minor in Public Relations.

Starting May 13th, Peyton will work with our Anchor Service, certainly a place familiar to her! For the month of July, she will also serve in our Student Ministry program alongside Brooke Cox as an additional summer intern.

Peyton says she is passionate about music and is excited to use this passion towards worshipping God, and serving in the Church this summer.

Change to Church Office Hours

Beginning May 31st, the church office will be closed on Fridays. The office will still be open Monday - Thursday, 8am - 4pm, except for regular holidays. Your SPR committee views this decision as a show of appreciation to our administrative staff and our volunteers, and the change should have very minimal impact, if any, on our congregation.

Welcome our Summer Staff

We invite the congregation to Click Here so that both Brooke and Peyton will experience a welcome that only IOHUMC can give! Simply go to the sign up, pick a slot, buy the gift card(s), and bring them by the church officer where we will add them to a welcome gift basket.

And if you don't have much free time, just choose the last option and go to our website, click Give Online, choose "Youth Program Fund," and note "Summer Staff" in the Memo line.

Music and Missions

Benefit Concert Coming Soon

Please mark your calendars and invite your friends and plan to attend 'Let’s Go to the Movies,' a concert to benefit the Capital Campaign for Wesley Community Centers Childcare Center on Drayton Street.

You will not want to miss the great music, raffle, and an experience to remember that will also make a difference! Watch for further details, but make plans now to be in the Ministry Center on Sunday, June 9th at 5:00PM.

Ignite Student Ministries

Before we officially kick off the summer, we have two events planned to help students reconnect and get ready for all the fun ahead.

Brain Break Party!

This Sunday, May 19th, 5:00 - 7:00pm

What do 9 Square in the Air, Basketball, a Nacho Bar, and a Movie all have in common? Hopefully YOU! . Also, we will have a nacho bar. After all the stress of exams and the final week of school, come take a moment to relax and hang out with friends!

Students vs. Parents 2024

May 29th, 5:00 - 7:00pm

This summer, we will not have regular Sunday Night Youth activities. Instead, keep your Wednesday Nights open from 5-7p for Cross Training. Our first one on May 29th is BYOP (Bring Your Own Parent(s)) Night. Come hang out, meet our summer intern, Brooke, and get ready for fun, competitive games! So if you want bragging rights (adding onto the chores list), then come out and let's show some support for Ignite Student Ministries!

Missions

 Summer Sewing Camps

Monday - Thursday, 9:00am - 12noon

Week 1: July 8-11 and Week 2: July 22-25

Once again, Teri Akin is facilitating this wonderful opportunity for anyone ages 7 and older. Come learn basic sewing skills as we do one mission project for others and one project for you to take home.

Sewing machines are available for use or you can bring your own. To register for this fun learning experience at no cost, go to our website, www.iohumc.com.

Looking for a new way to serve?

Only have a limited amount of time in your schedule? Maybe you have a little free time once a month - 2 hours max? Can you lift a bag of groceries? If so, we need YOU!

Your mission work, should you choose to accept it: delivering food items (canned goods, etc.) to stock the pantry at Wesley Community Center. For more information on how to join the Wesley Brigade, contact Julie Vann at jvann@iohumc.com.
