May 15: The general public is invited to enjoy the sights and sounds of the District's outstanding music students and staff at this year's 100th Anniversary of Music Week at the Music Week School Night event, to be held at Taco Bell Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m. No tickets are required. May 18: Last day of school for high school seniors.

May 21: Athletic physicals offered for next year's (2018-19) freshman and junior athletes in the Boise School District. This is the Boise School District's annual athletic physical exams for incoming 9th and 11th grade athletes. It is sponsored by the Ada County Medical Society (ACMS). Cost is $20.00. All proceeds support the athletic training departments at Boise School District high schools. Following are physical exam schedulels for each high school's quadrant area:

Boise: 5:00 pm – 5:45 p.m.
Borah: 5:45 pm – 6:30 p.m.
Timberline: 6:30 pm – 7:15 p.m.
Capital: 7:15 pm – 8:30 p.m.

Boise Schools Food Service Professional Named Regional Employee of the Year: The national, non-profit School Nutrition Association (SNA) has named Marlene Toothaker from Boise School District, ID, the Northwest regional Employee of the Year. The award recognizes the valuable contribution of school nutrition employees who exhibit a remarkable commitment to the school meal program and the students they serve. For 24 years, Marlene Toothaker has been dedicated to providing students with high quality, nutritious school meals. She currently works at Horizon Elementary and Morley Nelson Elementary schools and has implemented a unique marketing campaign for the schools’ Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Learn more...

Boise High Students Receive Recognition: Boise High students Liam Marchant, Dominik Sparling, and Therese Etokarecently recieved the Upstander CARE award from the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights . Students received up to $1,000 each as a part of their recognition for acting as upstanders in our community and beyond - those who recognize a wrong and take action to make it right. While being an upstander is everyone's responsibility, each winner's achievement(s) displays a remarkable choice to combat intolerance, prejudice and injustice and make a constructive contribution(s) in reshaping his/her world. Emphasis was given to accomplishment(s) that exhibit sustainable acts of compassion, acceptance, respect and empathy toward others. The Wassmuth Center award strives to encourage young activists and inspires each of us to become an advocate for change.

Capital High School Student Receives National Recognition: Capital High School senior Elsie Childress (pictured) has been selected to receive a corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship. Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the Finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $500 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000. Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice. Learn more...

Timberline High Student Receives Recognition: Timberline High sophomore Sophia Burchfield (pictured) is the winner of the Idaho Level 3 Letters About Literature competition. Sophia's letter will now be entered into the national round of judging. The letter writer selected for first place at the national level is eligible to receive a cash award of $1,000. Two honorable mention winners will be selected for a prize worth $200. Winners will be announced by the end of May 2018. Letters About Literature is a reading and writing contest for students in grades 4-12. Students are asked to read a book, poem or speech and write to the author (living or dead) about how the book affected them personally. Letters are judged on state and national levels. Learn more...

East Students Earn Art Awards: Students from East Jr. High School earned awards in the 2017-18 Idaho Power Student Art Contest. Idaho Power holds an annual art contest for students in grades K-9 to promote ways to save energy and environmental stewardship. More than 30 students and their teachers will be recognized in the Idaho Power service area. A total of four students from East were recognized for their artwork:

District Students Earn Nation Merit Scholarships: National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced this year’s National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners. Nationwide, a total of 2,500 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.
