Magro Madness Recap

#MagroMadness2024 was one of our best tournaments yet! Thank you to every volunteer, participant, sponsor, and donor (including raffle prize donors). Thank you to Tom Kuck and the LuHi staff for being such accommodating hosts. Thank you to Joe Slaninka and his Henry Viscardi School wheelchair basketball players for providing such an enriching experience for the able-bodied players. Thank you, Coach Jimmy Montana, Julia Bentrewicz, and Ed Hebron for being such amazing partners. DJ Geoffery, thank you for entertaining us all day! This year we added photos by Le Selfie and the portable photo mirror. The players and spectators loved the photos! Instantly they were texted or emailed to them. Look for all photos in a link we will share later in the week.

The committee wanted to thank the Magros for providing us with this opportunity to help families with sick children. The committee and the level of professionalism and teamwork inspire MMF! On behalf of our executive and advisory board, we want to thank all of you.

Our collective efforts helped raise $13,000 at the tournament! These funds will pay outstanding bills for the families we are helping. It will pay utility, rent/ mortgage, car payments, car insurance, parking, medical expenses, pharmacy bills and so much more. Thank you from all of us at MMF for participating in our mission.

RipTide Fundraiser Recap

The 3rd Annual New York Riptide fundraiser for the Michael Magro Foundation was a resounding success! Held on Saturday, March 23rd, at the Nassau Coliseum, the event saw an electrifying game as the Riptide triumphed over the visiting Saskatchewan Rush with a score of 14-11.

We're thrilled to announce that we raised $3,000! These funds were generated through ticket sales and raffles, both of which were enthusiastically supported by attendees. Over 180 tickets were sold, with a portion of each sale directly benefiting the foundation.

Generous donations for the raffles came from local businesses, including Peppercorn’s Restaurant & Catering, Lacrosse Unlimited Wantagh, Edge Multi-Sport Camp, Salisbury Tavern, New York Riptide, Roast Sandwich House, Riko’s Pizza Merrick, Shore2Shore Lacrosse, and La Nonna Bella Ristorante Italiano.

In addition to the robust support from attendees and businesses, the event featured a special halftime activity where boys from K-2nd grade had the opportunity to play on the turf. Families from Hauppauge Youth Lacrosse, Hicksville PAL (Michael Magro’s lacrosse program), and Shore2Shore Lacrosse came together to participate in this memorable experience.

Overall, the fundraiser was a tremendous success, underscoring the enduring impact of Michael's passion for lacrosse. It was heartwarming to see families come together in his honor, perpetuating his legacy by fostering a love for the sport among future generations while also serving others.
