Meet William Bushey

Photo of William Bushey

Hi, my name is William Bushey, and I am a senior at Alpena High School! I enjoy playing trumpet, designing graphics, and working with my robotics team.

TTS has helped me navigate the stress of college applications. The college journey can insight a lot of anxiety, but my TTS advisor’s coaching helped me stay calm and focused all the way through the process.

My biggest piece of advice for future seniors is: get involved! Find clubs that you enjoy, teams to be a part of, and places to volunteer. It’s never too early or too late to find new interests and hobbies; these extracurriculars are great resume builders for the next level of education.

It's FAFSA Time!

More Tips For A Successful Senior Year

Seniors, this year is going to be your busiest year of school. There are so many things to tackle!  I’ve put together a list of important dates and task deadlines that you will want to mark on your calendar. You should have completed your college search and planning during your junior year. If you haven’t started, this task should be completed immediately.

Acceptance letters/Financial Aid: When you receive your acceptance letter will depend on the type of system you applied under. Early Action and Early Decision applicants will hear back between early and mid-December. Early Decision II applicants should hear back by mid-February. Regular Decision applicants will receive their letters usually in March or early April. It is a good idea to wait until you have all acceptance and rejection letters in hand before moving to the next step. I recommend comparing your financial aid packages at this point. Some will seem great on paper but aren’t as good once you look a bit deeper.

Once you hear back from all your colleges, it’s time to make a decision. You should notify colleges you are attending and ones you are not. If you applied under Early Decision, this means you agreed to attend the school if accepted. You need to send a deposit right after receiving the acceptance letter, which tends to be mid-December. If, for some reason, you cannot attend, you need to have a good reason to back out without consequences. As with Early Decision, Early Decision II is binding. If you’re accepted, you need to submit your deposit after receiving the letter in mid-February. Early Action applications are not binding, and students usually have until May 1st to notify the college of their intention to attend or not. A deposit is also needed by this date. Regular decision applicants need to notify their schools of their intentions by May 1st. Schools usually require deposits by May 1st, too.

This year will be over before you blink. My best advice is to stay on top of deadlines and maintain regular contact with your Talent Search Advisor. We are here to support you through every step of this process!
