Hanover County Parks and Recreation got a sneak peek of Montpelier Recreation Center and Library last week.

We are thrilled to see this space come to life! The facility includes a full-size gym, library and meeting spaces for our community.

Soon, it will be filled with a lot more than our Parks and Recreation staff – and we can't wait!

Hanover County leaders spent last week's Virginia Association of Counties Local Government Day advocating on behalf of our residents, sharing what you want to see here in Hanover.

Learn what it was like growing up here in Hanover through Untold Stories of the 1940s, '50s and '60s.

Visit Patrick Henry High School on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. to hear a panel of residents speak about their experience in Hanover. This year's theme is education and covers a range of topics including community, history and race.

Downtown Ashland Association, Hanover County Black Heritage Society, Ashland Museum and Hanover Arts and Activities Center are partnering for the 10th annual Black History Month event.

Local families and individuals earning under $64,000 per year are invited to Empowering Neighbors' free income tax preparation service.

Empowering Neighbors is a community nonprofit in Downtown Ashland created in 2022 striving to build networks of neighbors here in Hanover.

Hanover County’s “Spirit of Volunteerism” program honors outstanding individuals who give back to our community.

Nominations are now open to recognize volunteers in the following categories:

• Spirit of One
• Spirit of Youth
• Spirit of Youth-Team
• Spirit of Dedication
• Spirit of Family
• Spirit of Team
• Spirit of Inspiration
• Commitment to Community 

All nominees will be recognized at an awards celebration on Monday, April 15 from 7-9 p.m. at Atlee High School. The event is free and open to the public. 

Nominations will be accepted through Monday, Feb. 12. More information is available here.
