Remember, Remember the 5th of November!
'Bonfire Night' or 'Guy Fawkes' Night' celebrates the foiling of Guy Fawkes' attempt to blow up England's House of Parliament on November 5th, 1605.

The November 5th celebrations often include fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire.

The photograph above was taken at the Pinders' place last week!

What a beautiful forecast for the next few days on the Treasure Coast!  This is the season for color and for garden-fresh herbs and veggies...it leads right into the season for gift-giving!  It's truly remarkable that we are already so close to the holidays.  Every year moves faster, it seems!  Alas, we cannot stop time or roll it back, so bask in the corals, purples, and yellows of freshly-planted seasonal color; keep your eyes peeled for faeries; and enjoy every cucumber, tomato, and lettuce leaf!

We'll see you in the garden!

We planted some hanging baskets that will look great in your space!

And we have many more beauties hanging in the shop!

Fall in The Berkshires
From:  Kisti

As some of you may know, my family and I recently moved to Massachusetts.  Gulp!  It's true!  We left Palm City on October 20th after loading our Jeep with all it could carry, including our one-year old and our Boston Terrier.  We took our time driving I-95 to I-26 to I-77 to I-81. We detoured to stay with family in Western Pennsylvania and then headed through Western New York and into The Berkshires, Massachusetts.  The drive was absolutely wonderful. There was no rushing, no traffic, and no chaos.  Betsy surprised us and proved to be a perfect traveler. There were so many gorgeous views as we drove up through the mountains and under the changing leaves in the most perfect of weather.  We're all settled in now and I thought I would share a little foliage from our road trip and a sweet glimpse of Fall in this fairly quiet part of New England (it's currently 37 degrees).

Add tHerbshe Herbs!

Veggie season is here and we're all busy planting, harvesting, and eating delicious homegrown vegetables.  While you're at it, don't forget to add some herbs to your edible landscape!  When planning which herbs to add to your garden, think about what you will use them for and don't be afraid to be creative!  Herbs are the perfect addition to everything culinary, from salads to seafood to smoothies.  We offer a Make-n-Take Workshop called Patio Herbs that will help you discover which herbs work where and, if you're new to using fresh herbs, which are your favorites.  Click this link for more information about our next great workshop on Herbs.

Read on for some helpful details about a few of our very favorite herbs, like the beautiful Wild Red Basil, pictured above!

Mints. Mints come in every flavor you can imagine. They can grow quickly and should be planted separately in the garden so they don't take over other herbs. They like a lot of water. The most popular flavors are Spearmint, Peppermints, and Chocolate.  Mints are excellent used in drinks and teas and to flavor Middle Eastern dishes.

Lemon Grass.
Can be planted as a decorative grass in the garden, but can grow to 4 feet.  Used in teas or dishes to give a citrus flavor.  The oil is used in the citronella candles.  Repels mosquitoes.  Easy to grow.

Culantro. Cilantro's sharper cousi
n, from the Caribbean and S. America. Grows all year and will reseed.  Has a similar flavor to Cilantro and is great for flavoring Latin American and Asian dishes.

Lemon Verbena.  A woody shrub that has the flavor of lemons. Can be trimmed  periodically to maintain lush look. Has sweet- smelling flowers.

Basil.  Basil likes moisture. Two types we have found to grow well are the African Blue and the Wild Red.   The Italian Sweet Basil has been plagued with mildew and will not typically grow well in Florida.  Basil is very fragrant and perfect for flavoring Mediterranean foods.

Catnip.  If you're a cat lover, you need this in your garden.  Catnip is related to Mint, and it is easy to grow.  It likes to be moist.  There isn't a cat around that won't thank you for offering him or her a whiff of this!

Fennel. Great for salads and fish.  This time of year your Fennel will grow freely, but during Spring and Summer,
Swallowtails' caterpillars will find fennel and munch.

These are just some of our favorite herbs for cooking, crafting, and for looks.  We'll share more tips in next week's newsletter!  If there are any herbs you would like to know more about, drop us a line, here.
