Come have fun and learn a new skill at
The Palm Cross Making Workshop
Join us this Sunday at 10:15 am in the Michaux House basement for the Palm Cross making workshop. You’ll learn how to make palm crosses, which we will then hand out at Palm Sunday. A palm cross is a beautiful reminder of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem right before His crucifixion.
"Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. Those preceding (Jesus) as well as those following kept crying out: 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is to come! Hosanna in the highest!'" — Mark 11:8-10
We need ALL AGES to help us make over 300 crosses!
For our children, we will have another palm activity if they wish to do that instead.
The Youth Groups will be making palm crosses in Michaux House, room 302.

This Sunday: Conversations about End of Life Planning
St. James’s has a great resource to help you think about your plans for the end of life, and it’s never too early to start planning. One of the best gifts we can give our loved ones is to leave plans for our end of life care, funeral arrangements, and financial plans and commitments. End of life conversations can be difficult, and the goal is that this forum helps you begin to think about your plans in community with others.
Join us in Valentine Hall as we talk about end of life planning using the Omega File, a comprehensive document that contains everything you need to start planning.

Readings for Friday
in the 4th Week of Lent
The COLLECT
O God, you have given us the Good News of your abounding love in your Son Jesus Christ: So fill our hearts with thankfulness that we may rejoice to proclaim the good tidings we have received; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
The GOSPEL: John 7:1–2,10,25–30
After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He did not wish to go about in Judea because the Jews were looking for an opportunity to kill him. Now the Jewish festival of Booths was near.
But after his brothers had gone to the festival, then he also went, not publicly but as it were in secret.
Now some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is not this the man whom they are trying to kill? And here he is, speaking openly, but they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Messiah? Yet we know where this man is from; but when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.” Then Jesus cried out as he was teaching in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on my own. But the one who sent me is true, and you do not know him. I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.” Then they tried to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.

A Welcome
from Bishop Stevenson
There’s a brand new video on the homepage of the newly-updated Diocesan website – https://episcopalvirginia.org/ – that is a wonderful introduction to the Episcopal Church and the churches here in our diocese.
Much of the footage was shot right here at St. James’s, including a baptism, our procession, Penny preaching, and other moments from one of our services. We encourage you to view it, both because you’ll see our lovely church and because the video offers a moving description of what makes the Episcopal Church so special.

Looking Ahead & Ways to Get Involved | |
Youth AND Adults,
here's a service opportunity you'll flip for.
Palm Sunday is March 24 ... next weekend! This means The Palm Sunday Pancake breakfast is approaching and we still need help - especially Adult help. You don't need to be a Youth parent to help out. So come volunteer.
- Pancake Team Supervisors
- Server Supervisor
- Scramble Egg Supervisor and Youth Scramblers
- Cooking Bacon Supervisor
- "Environment" Engineer Supervisor and Youth Engineers - set the tables and decorate Valentine Hall
- Adult Treasurer - collect donations and supervise Youth greeters
-
AND we need a Clean-Up Team in addition to pot and pan washers so everyone can go to the parade. It would be great if we had more people to help clean-up than the sign-up sheet asks for.
Youth in grades 5-12, as well as any adults, please volunteer for this fun event.
To sign up, click here.
For those attending, breakfast will be from 8:30 - 9:30 am and the Palm Sunday Parade will begin at 9:30 am. There is a suggested donation of $5 per individual, $20 per family.
All donations benefit youth missions.

We hope you had a chance to attend our Adult Forum with the Endowment Board last Sunday.
If not, you can read the 2023 Endowment Report here. It does a great job of simply and quickly explaining the work of the Endowment Board and giving you an update of the endowment fund.
| |
You can also go here to learn about Legacy Giving – The Gift of a Lifetime – and see all the ways your legacy gift can contribute to our Endowment.
Finally, thanks to the Endowment Board for hosting the Q&A. We hope it was helpful to those in attendance.

Stations of the Cross –
The Walk with Jesus.
Saturday Morning, March 30
Our Stations of the Cross (also known as The Way of the Cross) will be Saturday, March 30 at Belle Isle.
Our walk commemorates Jesus's passion and journey to the cross in a beautiful setting. We stop at points along the trail to read and pray about key moments in Jesus's journey to the cross.
We'll meet at 10 am in the Belle Isle parking lot (300 Tredegar Street) and walk across the bridge together to Belle Isle.
We encourage All Ages to come - and bring your dog too!
Bring a picnic for after the walk. We'll sit on the grass and enjoy fellowship!

New Sacred Ground opportunities.
The Episcopal Church describes Sacred Ground as a “dialogue series on race & faith.” If you ask the more than 100 St. James’sers who’ve already participated in this program, they’ll tell you it’s an experience that will change how you see race, racism, and your own personal history.
Here’s how it works: Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race and racism while weaving in threads of their own family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 11-part series – spread over 4½ months to give you ample time for reading, viewing videos, and processing the material – is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on indigenous, black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.
Suzanne Hall and Patty Duffy, both experienced Sacred Ground facilitators, will
co-facilitate classes with a maximum of ten participants every other Saturday from
9-11 am beginning April 6 and ending August 17. You can sign up here.
To learn more, go to the Sacred Ground page on the Episcopal Church website.
We’re working on adding another class or two.
If you’re interested in participating in Sacred Ground but Saturday doesn’t work for you, we’re considering two additional times:
Mondays from 4 to 6 pm or Wednesdays from 7 to 9 pm.
Go here to indicate which time(s) work better for you.

Change someone’s life, starting with your own.
There’s a reason parishioners return to the sites of mission trips time and again – because the experience leaves a permanent impression on their hearts and souls. That is especially true of our mission work in Honduras. These trips have changed the trajectories of some parishioners' lives, leading some to choose a career – not to mention learn a foreign language – because the work we do there had such a powerful impact on them.
After a few years away, we’re returning to Honduras this summer – to offer our hearts and hands to Our Little Roses Home for Girls. We encourage you to strongly consider joining us and, in the process, change the lives of girls in need – and maybe your life too.
We know choosing to go on an international mission isn’t a snap decision, so we’ve extended the deadline to sign up to March 20. For details and to sign up, please contact trip leader Julie Wade at juliecwade12@gmail.com.
Of course, Honduras isn’t our only Summer Mission. We’re also have two trips scheduled closer to home:
- Harvest of Hope on the Eastern Shore to glean crops for local food banks and participate in hunger education (July 14 - 17)
- Hurley Community Development Center to work in a community food bank and help residents with necessary home repairs (June 22 - 28)
For more information about our YOUTH missions, and to sign up, go here.
If you have questions, contact Katie Ricard at youth@doers.org
We also have a fourth way to be God's hands in the world right here in Richmond:

Project Homes 2024
