North Carolina Black Deaf Advocates, affiliated with the National Black Deaf Advocates, ask you to celebrate Black History Month!
How did it start? Black History Month began as “Negro History Week” in 1926. February was chosen as the Black History Month as it covered the birthdays of Frederick Douglass (February 14) and Abraham Lincoln (February 12).
NC Black Deaf and Hard of Hearing Citizens have their own state chapter! For more information, please contact NCBDA President, Martina Moore-Reid at: Martinamoo@aim.com.
Controversial Increased Use of VRI
(Video Relay Interpreting)
The most controversial use of VRI has been in the medical setting, where use the VRI has exploded without input from the deaf and hard of hearing community and without meaningful regulations of how VRI technology is used in this setting.
National Association of the Deaf strongly believe the VRI services should be provided only if on-sit interpreter services are unavailable .
VRI Should be the LAST RESORT.
