Letter from the Director - David Elkins

Praise God, as we turned the page on a new year and close out 2022 I am excited to see what God is going to do this year! These times that we're living in are so uncertain if you're not trusting God your life has to be in a state of panic and worry. Reflecting on the words of the wisest man to ever live, King Solomon; Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

Now if King Solomon in all his wisdom recognized that trusting in the Lord and not himself was the only way for success why is it so hard for us? Just four short years ago we took possession of our property for Safe Harbor of Jefferson County. Not sure what God was going to do we trusted Him. For those who have been around since the beginning it has been amazing to see the transformation of the property into a suitable facility where men can Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose, and go Make a Difference.

What's more amazing than property transformation is lives transforming into men of God, as the evidence in their lives is becoming, dependable fathers, loving husbands, responsible sons, and Reliable employees. All through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

Not a day goes by that our phones or emails are not reaching out to us of somebody in need of help. Again, without trusting God there is no way we can say yes to this one and no to that one. We are limited to how many men we can serve therefore we have prayed and trusted God for direction on how to address this overwhelming need. Thanks to many volunteers and donors we have plans for new residential cottages to begin in the spring of 2023. To God be the Glory!

There are so many people to thank! Our many volunteers who daily teach, disciple, mentor, and encourage our men, our prayer warriors who pray for us consistently, our donors who help us meet the needs of operating the facility, my staff who give above and beyond to the Glory of God, sacrificing their own needs to help meet the need of one searching for significance, and a special thanks for the corporate ministry covering of Lighthouse who provide us with the oversight, support, and godly wisdom that keeps everything moving behind the scenes.

He only asks us to trust and obey! If you have experienced the love of Jesus, then you know that loving Him through trust and obedience is the only way to experience true love!

Thank you, Jesus, thank you all!

Partner of the Quarter - Custom Foods

Good day to you. My name is James Staffan the Reliable Coordinator with Safe Harbor. Safe Harbor of Jefferson County would like to recognize as Partner of the Year, for the second year in a row, Custom Foods.

We have been partnered since 2018 and the partnership just keeps getting better. Their management and human resource team is top notch and really takes our clients' interest to heart with their day-to-day operations. I personally visit Custom Foods one to two times a week. I orientate new employees and walk them thru the plant and back to their respective departments. We are 75 employees strong now and have a relatively low turnover. One of the reasons why is the environment that they work at. Custom Foods offer above average competitive pay and career opportunities to those that wish to extend their assignments, as well as transitioning to management/leadership roles.  One of the major factors that I observe as to why this is a great place for them to work, the employees smile. It may sound trivial, however when I walk through the plant all of the employees seem really happy and have a smile on their face. That leads me to believe that it a great work environment and great management.

I would love to give a special shout out to the Human Resource department as a whole and Patty List, who with her God loving heart and warm understanding to what we do, helps make all this happen. Congratulations once again to Custom Foods, and to many more years of great partnership.

Client of the Quarter

"March 4, 2020 I went to Sumner County Jail for theft of a truck. The lady that I was with when pulled over, got pulled over with my son on March 17th and both were arrested. They were each charged with theft charges. After the lady stopped talking there was 17 charges added to me, now facing 18 charges. For 2 years I sat in jail with no bond. I kept praying about all that was going on with my charges, while the DA continuing to put my trial date off.

As I was in my bunk one night GOD told me to just take the 8 years at 30 % and be done with the charges. So, to prison I went. While there, the church services were not happening that often, I helped start Bible Study groups for the inmates. They started with just a few of us and grew to be a mass majority. Having been saved for awhile GOD was showing me GRACE in abundance.

I keep thanking GOD for his protection and all the work HE was doing in my life. I guess one of HIS greatest works was me going up for Parole and making it my first time on September 1st, 2022. I left the prison and the Bible Studies to face the unknown.

As I came to Safe Harbor and found acceptance and the ability to continue to study GOD's word. It has to be one of the greatest things that has happened to me. I am getting closer to GOD and have a stronger more impactful life living for the LORD. Again, I thank GOD for changing my life and making me a better servant for HIM.

GOD is restoring my life and has placed a Christian lady in my life. Life will always be a struggle, but as the HOLY SPIRIT lives inside me supplying me with GOD's Grace and Love, there is nothing that I can not overcome. I have a good job and great people at Safe Harbor around me.

Thank You Safe Harbor"
