Second Quarter 2024

Message from the President of the Board

Ashok Garlapati, CSP, QEP, CFIOSH, FASSP

BCSP’s well-established and ambitious vision is “a safer world through safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) leadership.” As an organization, we are truly focused on the global nature of that vision. We also recognize other SH&E organizations around the world share our aspiration and that, through the synergy of our efforts, we can always achieve more together than we can separately.

For that reason, BCSP is pleased to build and maintain a variety of mutually beneficial and collaborative relationships. Some of these agreements formally recognize the value and harmony of various certifications. Some outline plans to provide support for one another and aim to share resources. All of them seek to advance safety practice across the globe by working together.

Most recently, we signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Safety Engineers Association (SEA) based in India. It is one of numerous MOUs and partnership agreements into which BCSP has entered with organizations around the world and the latest in the region known as India, the Middle East, and Africa (IMEA). Others in this group over the past several years include the Society of Engineers – UAE, the Jordan Engineers Association, and the Kuwait Society of Engineers.

As an SH&E professional located in the IMEA region, I am energized by this growth. Through relationships like these, we are better able to develop leaders in SH&E practice worldwide and introduce our certifications to current and potential practitioners from various regional and cultural backgrounds.

BCSP also works alongside other leading safety bodies around the world as a member of the International Network of Safety & Health Professional Organisations (INSHPO), helping to shape the SH&E profession globally.

There is a true synergy created when we come together in pursuit of a common goal. We witnessed it firsthand in May when our second Global Learning Summit attracted more than 4,400 registrants from 55 countries to network and learn from one another. We extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors, our more than 100 SH&E subject matter experts who presented sessions, and everyone who attended and made it another valuable event.

Coming off that success, BCSP remains focused on continuing to provide growth opportunities and resources for safety professionals everywhere.

We just launched Mentor Connect, our new online platform for connecting mentors and mentees in the SH&E space. We regularly add new and relevant content to The Hub to assist with the work you do each day. And we continue to enhance our Group Management platform to help companies enhance their safety culture through certification.

We hope you enjoy reading about each of those initiatives and more below. Thank you for coming alongside us and sharing our vision.

GLS Attracts Thousands for Affordable, Accessible Professional Development

"The GLS was fantastic. There were so many different topics from which to choose and each session was very informative. These types of learning opportunities are imperative for Safety Professionals to refresh and improve."

– Lori Matthews, GLS Attendee

BCSP held the second biennial Global Learning Summit (GLS) from May 7-9, drawing speakers and participants from around the world to network and share knowledge virtually.

More than 4,400 registrants signed up for the event at a cost of just $25. They received access to more than 100 presentations from leading safety, health, and environmental professionals, spanning a range of important topics in today’s rapidly-evolving landscape.

"One of the highlights of the summit was the focus on futuristics technology in SH&E. The event featured presentations on the latest technological advancements in the field, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and virtual reality. These presentations provided attendees with insights into how these technologies can be used to improve safety and health in the workplace."

New blueprints for each BCSP certification exam are created as part of the revalidation process every five (5) years or more often, if necessary. The new blueprints reflect the consensus of the profession as to the knowledge and skills a minimally qualified candidate must possess to be deemed competent.
