Solmar Learning Center
Officially Opened to the Public
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 18, 2022) – Felton Institute celebrated the opening of its fifth early care and education site, Solmar Learning Center (SLC), with a ceremony complete with special guests, speeches, tours and ribbon cutting.

The ceremony, full of laughs, a few tears, and wonderful insights, also offered moments of reflection, all while presenting a very real vision for the future of not just children, but whole families – the two-generation approach to building and sustaining healthy and thriving communities.

Following brief opening remarks from Felton Chief Executive Officer, Al Gilbert, and Chief Operations Officer, Dr. Yohana Quiroz who spearheaded the SLC project, special honored guests, elected officials and organizers who were on site to show their support and welcome Solmar to the neighborhood, had the opportunity to speak to the cause and effect and completion of this ambitious project.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: Mission Economic Development Agency
Over the last couple of years, the topic of equity has reached a level in public discourse that it hadn’t in years prior to the pandemic. Much of the discussion has centered on racial equity, but also the broader implications of equitable policies and practices across a variety of access challenge points like education and housing.

This is why Felton Institute has enjoyed a decades-long partnership with the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA), an organization for which equitable practices are not new – in fact, they’ve been doing the work for almost 50 years.
March Brought Spring and Board Transitions
On the cusp of seasonal change, Felton Institute too, has experienced recent changes to its Board of Directors. We proudly welcome two new members, Daniel Costello and Dr. George Woods, who began their tenure September 2021 and January 2022 respectively.

Felton is sad to acknowledge that with its seasonal change, Dr. Michelle Clark, a longstanding Member of the Board, will be leaving. Too soon, the time has arrived to wish Dr. Clark success as she transitions out of her role as board member and Chair of the Program Committee, and on to new endeavors.
FELTON AND YOU
Women at Work, Felton’s Dream Team.
Across our organization, our teams dedicate their lives to serving our community and with a senior leadership team made of 60% women—we recognize the success of Felton Institute is largely owed to the intersectional leadership of women at every level.

While we celebrate the accomplishments and strides the women leaders at Felton Institute persistently achieve, we continue to address the inequalities and barriers to success that women in other communities face.
Last year we served over 30,000 women through our services.
