Partnerships & Collaboration

Healthy Together Cleveland continues to grow! The coalition is excited to welcome the Town of Kingstown, Mental Health Association of Cleveland County and Foothills Farmers' Market as formal partners through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). These agreements are documentation that both parties will cooperatively work together on an agreed upon project(s). Through these projects, Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) change interventions will be used. PSE change interventions have a great potential to improve a community’s health by addressing socioeconomic factors and by making healthy choices more accessible, easier and the standard choice. More information about these partnerships and the collaboration are below. So much good is happening and I am thankful for the opportunity to partner with each of you!

It will take us all doing our part to improve the health of Cleveland County. Let us know if you're interested in getting involved by clicking on the button below. Healthy Together Cleveland values working together.

Town of Kingstown

The partnership with the Town of Kingstown will focus on two projects. The first project will support a built environment intervention. Last fall, the coalition hosted focus groups to learn more about the Kingstown community and learned that the community park is not viewed as a safe place to be physically active. The physical activity group conducted a walk audit, using a tool from AARP to determine opportunities for improvement. The committee shared results with Mayor, Janet Gerald and next steps include sharing the walk audit findings with residents and engaging them to provide solutions to improve the park. The coalition will also support Kingstown in piloting a community engagement initiative where the coalition will invite and encourage community residents to actively participate in leading action for change in their community. Additional information on this will be shared as the project progresses.

Mental Health Association of Cleveland County

The Mental Health Association of Cleveland County (MHACC) and Healthy Together Cleveland are partnering to support community gardens throughout Cleveland County and the Healing with Nature program. To not duplicate efforts, these groups have combined and are now working together. This collaboration allows an opportunity to inventory gardens, track and measure where produce is given, ensure sustainability and identify additional needs and gaps. This work also aligns with our strategy to promote access to healthy food choices. Additionally, the Healing with Nature program includes opportunities for the community to engage in active living activities.

Foothills Farmers' Market

Everyone should have access to healthy foods. The coalition’s partnership with the Foothills Farmers’ Market aims to improve local food access through SNAP/EBT card services and Market Moolah incentives. The partnership will provide low-income shoppers with one dollar towards SNAP-eligible purchase, for every dollar of SNAP benefits spent at the market, up to $10 each market day. This will double the SNAP customer’s buying power so they can afford to purchase more fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods at the market. Additionally, the partnership will work to attract new SNAP customers to the market through outreach efforts and education. The coalition will also support the FoodShare program where farmer’s and shoppers can provide extra produce at the end of each market day to support the monthly food distribution in Kingstown and with Common Ground Café to provide healthy meals to seniors not currently in the Meals on Wheels program.
