Community Food Access Survey

We are excited to share some important updates and opportunities with you.

In this newsletter (the graphic above and the link below), you will find a flyer and a link to a community Food Access Survey that the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE) is distributing. The goal is to collect as many survey responses as possible across the county by the end of October.

Why your input matters: This information will help continue to plan and implement food access programs, particularly the NY Food for NY Families Grow Chautauqua Food Box program. Since June 12, this program has distributed over 36,000 pounds of fresh, local produce to community members across the county. By understanding food insecurity directly from community members, we can better address these issues.

All surveys remain anonymous. Those who wish to share their contact information will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 gift card to Brigiotta’s Farmland Produce in honor of their 100th anniversary and partnership with our programs.

Please share this survey with your contacts, clients, and program participants. CCE is currently working on translating their flyer and survey into other languages and will share those versions once they are available.

Cornell is committed to learning from our community members and using this knowledge to enhance this and more programs.

Child Care Centers: Qualifying for the Child and Adult Care Food Program

Child care centers and school-age child care programs can qualify for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which provides essential support to help serve healthy meals and snacks to children in their care. This program ensures that children receive nutritious food, contributing to their overall well-being and development.

By participating in CACFP, child care providers can offer balanced meals that meet dietary guidelines, fostering healthy eating habits from a young age. This support is crucial in addressing food insecurity and promoting health among children, ensuring they have the energy and nutrients needed for growth and learning.
