Dear GSLS Community,
School is well underway, with an enthusiastic buzz of excitement about engaging lessons and activities on both campuses. Next Sunday, September 8, is the Back to School Chapel/Rally Day—a long-time tradition that includes Pastor Dan asking for God’s blessing for the school year and the Teacher Installation. This well-attended church service and luncheon, beginning at 9:30 a.m., is the right mindset for starting the school year and a time to meet other families.
Your involvement with your child’s education is invaluable, so we wish to share the A to Z of what takes place at GSLS. The Back-to-School Nights on September 11 and 12th on the respective lower and upper school campuses, and on September 25th for preschool, will outline the curriculum, expectations, and opportunities your child will have this year. There will be innumerable opportunities to become involved with your child’s education this school year, but this not-to-miss event will be most informative.
As you probably know, the GSLS preschool became fully accredited by the prestigious National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) this past spring. Very few institutions have secured this crème de la crème accreditation, which is made possible by the commitment of our preschool teachers and the exceptionality of the GSLS preschool program. In fact, GSLS has the only NAEYC accredited preschool in Marin County. Shout out to our amazing team of preschool teachers and aides.
Similarly, the Kindergarten through eighth-grade program is fully accredited by the highly esteemed Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) accrediting agency. GSLS is slated to go through the ACS WASC mid-term reaccreditation process this school year. All ducks are in a row for what we believe to be the passing of that re-accreditation process with flying colors, so I mention this as one of the many ways GSLS pursues exceptionality. Many thanks to the new GSLS Assistant Head of School, Joanne Walsh, for her wealth of understanding and background in ACS WASC accreditation as she leads us through this process.
Safety and security are of paramount importance at GSLS. This is a kind reminder to stop at all pedestrian walkways in the neighborhoods around our campuses, please refrain from driving while on the phone, and adhere to the directions of the persons managing the stop sign. Sorry for ending this communiqué on that note, but we want to safeguard everyone.
Best wishes for a blessed Labor Day long weekend,
Scott Root / GSLS Head of School
