Editor's Note: The Hawaiian Church Chronicle is released on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, but every so often, the dates align to create a 3-week gap between issues. This Chronicle Supplement is an abbreviated version of the Chronicle, to help fill that gap with time-sensitive information and announcements.

Proper 17 - Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

BISHOP'S CORNER

UPDATED ANNOUNCEMENT:

THE REV. CANON DAVID & ANNA MARIE KENNEDY

The Reverend Canon David Kittle Kennedy (age 92) died on August 13, 2024. David was ordained to the transitional Diaconate on July 7, 1963, and to the Priesthood on January 12, 1964, by his father, the Right Reverend Harry S. Kennedy, the last Bishop of the Missionary District of Honolulu.

David served as the Vicar of St. Barnabas’ Church, Ewa Beach, from 1963 to 1968; Rector of St. Peter’s Church, Honolulu, from 1968 to 1973; Priest-in-Charge of the Church of the Ascension, Kwajalein, from 1969 to 1972; Rector of St. Timothy’s Church, 'Aiea, from 1973 to 1981; and Head of St. Andrew’s Priory School, Honolulu, from 1981 to 1996. In retirement, David served several congregations in the Diocese as an interim and supply priest.

Through the decades, David often served on Diocesan Council and the Standing Committee. He was a Deputy to General Convention several times. He also served on the Board of Camp Mokulēʻia. David was raised at The Cathedral of St. Andrew. He was a graduate of ‘Iolani School, Trinity College, and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific.

In 2012, David was named an Honorary Canon of The Cathedral of St. Andrew, Honolulu, to fill the Father Kenneth A. Bray Chair for his special ministry of leadership in our Diocese, in several congregations, at St. Andrew’s Priory School, and by sharing the faith, nurturing others in fellowship, righteousness, and love, and striving to create “One Team” in our common mission as followers of Jesus Christ.

His beloved wife, Anna Marie, predeceased him in 2021. He is survived by four sons and grandchildren.

The Requiem Eucharist and Burial Office for David and Anna Marie Kennedy will be celebrated on Sunday, September 22, at 3:00 PM, in The Cathedral of St. Andrew, 229 Queen Square, Honolulu, HI 96813. Family visitation will precede the service in the Cathedral beginning at 2:15 PM. The service will be followed by a reception in Davies Hall.

Clergy are invited to vest (white stoles) and form the procession.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:

ALMIGHTY AND ETERNAL GOD, to whom there is never any prayer made without hope of mercy, be merciful to the soul of your faithful servant, David, being departed from this world in the confession of your Holy Name that he and all the departed may be welcomed into the company of your saints, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Rest eternal grant him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Yours faithfully,

Bob

All are in invited to attend the activities on the first day of Convention 56 that takes place on Friday, October 11, at The Cathedral of St. Andrew. The theme for this year's Education Day is Discipleship, defined in the Episcopal Dictionary of the Church as "A follower or pupil of a great master."
