Proper 10

O Lord, mercifully receive the prayers of your people who call upon you, and grant that they may know and understand what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to accomplish them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Important Reminder: Latest Phishing Scam

Aloha Kākou,

We have been getting an increasing number of reports of scam and phishing emails pretending to be from Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick. Whether the initial email requests money or not, please be vigilant in responding to anything that does not come from "rlfitzpatrick@episcopalhawaii.org."

Here are a few important reminders and tips to help you recognize and avoid scams:

  • Check the sender's email address: Do not rely solely on the sender’s name. Verify that the email address is a legitimate one that is in your contacts or can be verified. In this case, "rlfitzpatrick@episcopalhawaii.org."

  • Review the Signature Line: Legitimate emails from Bishop Bob will always contain a variation of the following:
  • Be Cautious of Urgent Requests: Phishing emails often create a sense of urgency or ask for confidential information. Bishop will never directly ask you to send cash, checks, or money orders via email or text. Though he occasionally encourages donations or support to established funds or causes, he will never add a link to an unknown source.

  • Do not click on suspicious links: Hover over any links in the email to see the actual URL before clicking on it. If it looks suspicious or does not match the stated domain, do not click it.

If you receive an email that you suspect may be a phishing email, please do not respond to it. If you are suspicious of an email you have received, please reach out to us at the Diocesan Support Center; you do not need to forward the original email, but you are welcome to notify us so we are aware of the situation and/or can clarify if the email is genuine.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued vigilance in keeping our ‘ohana safe from scams.

Mahalo!

Experiencing the Young Adult Festival in Kentucky

By Stason Skeen

Aloha! I'm Stason Skeen from St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Waimānalo. I was lucky enough to attend the Young Adult Festival, which takes place alongside the General Convention that was held in Louisville, KY, July 21-26, this year.

The Episcopal Church’s General Convention is a gathering where people from Episcopal churches around the world come together to make important decisions. It happens every three years and includes bishops, priests, deacons, and lay members from each Diocese that form a Deputation. They talk about rules for the church, plan events, and discuss how to serve the world and their neighbors. It’s like a big family gathering where everyone gets a say in how things should be done in the Church. READ MORE

SUMMER TIPS FOR AIR CONDITIONING: Although many of us in Hawai'i are fortunate to keep cool with natural ventilation, those who live in hotter regions or condos and apartment buildings, have to rely on other methods including air conditioners. If you are lucky enough to have A/C, the Department of Energy has tips on keeping your costs down, including keeping your A/C on when you go out. Keeping your A/C on prevents the room from heating up which actually takes more energy to cool down when you return. Keeping it on also protects appliances and electronics from damaging heat and humidity. For more info, visit the Department of Energy website HERE.
