Sierra Health Foundation’s 2024 Responsive Grants Program is Back

This year’s funding is in direct response to state budget cuts

Since 2008, Sierra Health Foundation has awarded approximately $8.3 million through the Responsive Grants Program to support community-driven projects that enhance health, promote access and reduce health inequity across our 26-county funding region. This year, we are offering grants of up to $10,000 to continue our Responsive Grants Program mission. Don’t miss this chance to secure funding for your impactful initiatives. Together, we can advance health and racial equity, improving the quality of life for all Californians.

Learn more (and share widely) by reviewing the Request for Applications (PDF) and submit your application online before the deadline on Tuesday, July 9 at 1 p.m.

Elevate Youth California’s Incredible Reach

Over 365 awards totaling $257.8 million since 2020

Elevate Youth California (EYC) is a statewide program addressing youth substance use by investing in the leadership development and civic engagement of young people of color and 2S/LGBTQ+ youth ages 12 to 26 living in communities disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs. We recently published our 2023 Annual Report which outlines the incredible accomplishments of our funded partners and the program. From engaging 46,000+ youth to hosting 40,235 prevention program events, our report outlines the many achievements of EYC, a program of the California Department of Health Care services funded through Proposition 64. Visit the EYC website to read the full report now.

Program Gatherings and Convenings

Stop the Hate

The Center’s Stop the Hate program recently brought together our 35 funded partners from across the state. At The Center, we value the power of gathering with conviction and connection, learning from one another so that we can be more effective, more inspired and always ready to support community. Stop the Hate works tirelessly to help prevent and confront anti-hate issues and incidents. Learn more about Stop the Hate here.

California Funders for Boys and Men of Color

The Center’s California Funders for Boys and Men of Color (CFBMoC) recently gathered with funding partners The County of San Diego Office of Equity and Racial Justice (OERJ) and Catalyst of San Diego and Imperial Counties to convene alongside additional funders, policymakers, community-based organizations and local leaders committed to the health and well-being of San Diego County’s boys and men of color. Arnold Chandler presented the Life Course Framework, a foundation of CFBMoC’s work, that uses empirical research to examine factors contributing to inequitable health, educational and economic outcomes to chart a positive pathway for boys and men of color. Expanding Access to Overdose Prevention and Harm Reduction in CA

Announcing 55 new funded partners

The Center’s California Overdose Prevention and Harm Reduction Initiative (COPHRI) supports the health, safety, dignity and autonomy of people who use drugs through evidence-based health services. Services delivered by funded partners embody compassion, empathy, allyship and community-building while rejecting judgment and coercion. Harm reduction services are a core feature of the drug use continuum of care, which includes access to safer drug use tools, unbiased health education, overdose prevention, social support and health care.

Part of California’s overarching approach to caring for the health of people who use drugs, COPHRI now supports 55 organizations in 25 counties. The program has committed more than $35 million for harm reduction services and capacity building. Future funding opportunities will support the development of new projects in historically un-served parts of California and with key populations, including Black, Indigenous and people of color.
