Ontario Electrical Safety Code (28th edition/2021)
ESA collaborated with its safety partners on the 2021 edition of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. The Minister of Government and Consumer Services has approved the regulatory amendment to adopt the 2021 Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), which comes into effect on May 5, 2022.
The 28th edition of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code includes the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1, plus Ontario-specific amendments. The Code reflects changes in technology and the market, feedback from stakeholders and technical reviews, and new safety insights.

The new Code will be available for order in December 2021. The hard copy of the Codebook will be available for $223, as well as a PDF version available for $199. These prices will include free access to the bulletins on the CSA Community of Interest website over the whole period of the Code cycle. Once purchased, the PDF version can be accessed immediately, while the hardcopy versions will be available for delivery in late January 2022.

ESA is partnering with the CSA Group to offer the Codebook and all ESA bulletins – which provide important updates and interpretations – together for one price in a searchable, digital format for $199 – accessible on smartphones, tablets and desktops and compatible with Windows and iOS. This version will be available in Summer 2022.

NIOSH Sound Level Meter App
NIOSH estimates that there are 22 million workers who are exposed to hazardous noise levels every year. In addition to damaging workers’ quality of life, occupational hearing loss carries a high economic price to society.
The NIOSH Sound Level Meter (SLM) app combines the best features of professional sound levels meters and noise dosimeters into a simple, easy-to-use package. The app was developed to help workers make informed decisions about their noise environment and promote better hearing health and prevention efforts. The app can serve as a tool to raise workers’ awareness about noise in their work environment and help them make informed decisions about the potential hazards to their hearing.
