Happy St. Patrick\'s Day!
I hope this message finds you safe, healthy, and happy as can be! How are you holding up? Itching for the warmth and growth of Spring? I sure am!
I cannot believe it's been a full year since Paul and I turned the van around in Lincoln, Nebraska after canceling my March tour. In some ways, it feels like it was yesterday... In others, like I've aged a decade since then.
We got back to Duluth on March 13th, stocked up on groceries, and never left! Just kidding... we've been OUTSIDE of course, but our world drastically shrank down to about a one-mile radius of our apartment. It's still that small, essentially, BUT we were able to get our first vaccine a couple of weeks ago and we should have full immunity by April 15th! Taxes + Immunity = I guess you have to take the good with the bad! It's nice to think about a world less restricted by COVID, even if it won't happen overnight. I hope you're able to get your vaccine soon if you haven't already!!!
Many, if not all of us, have lost someone near to us to this disease. If that is true for you, please know I am sending you an extra dose of love as we move forward during this strange, bittersweet year. The tune posted above is the traditional Irish song, "The Parting Glass"... May each of us take a moment today to honor all those who've gone before us.
"Until we meet again,
may God hold you
in the palm of his hand."

TWO Virtual Shows this Weekend!
|
|
As many of you know, I've been doing weekly concerts on YouTube every Sunday since March 20th, 2020. I figured it would be fun to do a one-year anniversary concert on Zoom to mark this unexpected 52-week (and counting!) series. Since it's so close to St. Patrick's Day, I'll be mixing in lots of my favorite Irish tunes. I'll have some family-friendly jokes, too, and after the show, you're invited to stick around for a pint (BYOB) and a friendly chat!
Gaelynn Lea's St. Patrick's Day Concert / Zoom Party!
Saturday, March 20th @ 2pm Central Time
(Noon Pacific, 3pm Eastern, 7pm in the UK)
And then on Sunday afternoon, I'll be hosting "Sunday Sessions" as usual. This week my guest artist is Nashville singer-songwriter Ben de la Cour. He'll be performing 3 songs and in between we'll talk about our experiences touring together, the inspiration for his heart-wrenching, dark folk songs, and what it's like performing & recording in Music City! I will end the show with a few of my own tunes, of course!
Gaelynn Lea's Sunday Sessions with Ben de la Cour!
Sunday, March 21st @ 2pm Central Time
(Noon Pacific, 3pm Eastern, 7pm in the UK)

Gratitude for my Patreon (Writing Support) Team!
|
|
Two years ago, I launched something called a Patreon page. Many of you receiving this newsletter are ALREADY members of my Patreon Team (for which I am extremely grateful!) but in case you've never heard of it, Patreon is a membership-only platform to support creative individuals in your life with a monthly contribution (kind of like public radio).
In return for their support, my Patreon Team members receive regular updates from me, writing excerpts from my forthcoming memoir, new music + books whenever they're released, free admission to ticketed online concerts, AND we have monthly virtual events called Second Sunday Patreon Zooms! It has turned into a really fun and co-creative community, and it also helps Paul and I make ends meet as I write my book.
As you likely know, I am currently in the throes of writing a memoir. It's a pretty big undertaking... So far I've got about 10% of it done. The rough draft is due on November 1st, so I have a LOT of writing ahead of me! For that reason, I am not taking any outside gigs for the next 6 months (although I am continuing to host Sunday Sessions because they fill me with joy/keep me connected to my violin). Patreon is providing a firm foundation for this extended break from outside events.
If you want to support my writing process - and get excerpts from the new book along the way - please check out my Patreon Page. The people you'll meet there are AWESOME (I highly recommend doing the monthly Patreon Zooms so you can connect with other Patrons) and you'll be helping to keep Paul & me clothed & fed as I write!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who are already members of my Patreon Team. It has been an absolute delight getting to know you better, and I look forward to seeing how this group grows, changes, and creates together in the coming year!

Here's the scene at my desk... I'd like to think my little fiddle-playing gnome is cheering me on with each new page. :)

|
Anyway, that's all for now... But don't be a stranger! I would love to hear how you are doing - simply reply to this email to let me know. I hope you can find your moments of lightness and joy increasing a bit each day, and that our collective hope can bloom with the coming Spring. Take good care of yourself and the ones you love... Looking forward to seeing you again in person ASAP! In the meantime, I am so grateful for how we've been able to connect online this year!
Cheers,
Gaelynn Lea
