A Season of Growth and Giving Summer and Food Insecurity

As we step into the warm, summer months, we are reminded of the bountiful harvests that this season brings. Yet, for many of our neighbors, summer also brings an increased struggle to put food on the table. During the school year, children rely on consistent meals at school, but now that it is summer vacation, many of them miss out on the abundance of food that other families enjoy.

At MANNA, we are committed to turning this season of growth into a season of giving, ensuring that our neighbors have access to the nutritious food that they need. Last year, we were able to distribute over 16,000 Summer Packs at 23 different school sites to families who needed extra assistance during the school break, and our goal is to exceed those numbers this year.

A group of volunteers builds MANNA Packs for students out of school.

In addition to our youth focus, we are inspired by your support and compassion, and by our volunteers, partners, and staff who continue to pour their hearts into the work to meet the record number of people we serve every day.

Last month alone, we distributed food to over 145,000 people at our 200+ partner locations and mobile markets across WNC and the Qualla Boundary, which totaled 1.6 million meals provided for our neighbors--meals that would not have been there otherwise.

It is because of you and all our amazing supporters that together we plant the seeds that will grow into a stronger, healthier Western North Carolina. We could not do it without you!

Pack to Give Back A Successful Inaugural Year!

We wanted to send a genuine THANK YOU to all that participated in our inaugural Pack To Give Back. 17 teams comprised of over 200 volunteers helped pack 25,000 pounds of rice and beans (equating to almost 20,000 meals). This food will go directly to our neighbors in Western North Carolina. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU.

Our participating teams were Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort, Biltmore, Cigna Healthcare, First Horizon Bank, Hunter Subaru, Mosaix Group, Inc, Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors, Inc., Pratt & Whitney, Arcadia Beverage, BorgWarner, Empire Distributors, Inc., HomeTrust Bank, Jabil Healthcare, MB HAYNES Corporation, Premier Sotheby's International Realty, The Riveter, and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company - Mills River.

We hope to see you next year!

NALC Food Drive Stamp Out Hunger 2024

Last month, we partnered with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) of Asheville for their incredible Stamp Out Hunger campaign.

This community-wide program brought together generous food donors, the dedicated organization and execution of NALC, and our committed volunteers to provide nutritious food to families in need throughout Western North Carolina.

The final tallies are in.... Collectively, the Asheville branch brought in 24,193 pounds of food. WOW! In addition to Asheville, the Hendersonville NALC also participated and raised an additional 36,163 lbs. of food. That's ultimately 60,000 pounds of food that will go towards our service area.

Truly, thank you to the NALC for the planning and execution of such a wonderful food drive.
