THE BLAST

THE LATEST NEWS AND INFORMATION FROM

WALLKILL PUBLIC LIBRARY

December 16, 2022

Happy holidays to all!

We want to wish all of our community members a happy and healthy Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and New Year! We’re looking forward to 2023 and all the books, crafts, and programming that comes with it!

Website gets facelift

If you haven’t visited the library’s website, lately, you’re in for a surprise! We recently upgraded the site to include more content and a user-friendly design. While the programming calendar is no longer on the homepage, you’ll have no trouble finding it – just click on the “Events Calendar” tab toward the top of the site and register, as usual!

Though the layout of the site has changed, your favorite features have not. You can still download digital material from OverDrive, fill out an online application for a library card, search the library catalog, and more. It won’t take you long to acquaint yourself with where everything is, as our new design is more intuitive and easier to use than ever before. We hope you like it!

Winter adult reading contest is short and sweet

There's still time to join!

Stop by the circulation desk at the library to pick up our newest winter adult reading contest card! This contest will run from now until 6 p.m. on January 6, 2023. For every challenge completed you will receive one raffle ticket to be entered to win a $25 gift certificate from Hudson Valley Chocolates. The drawing will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023.

'Tis the season for duplicate, well-intended, and totally missed-the-mark gifts! They will make great prizes for our Holiday Re-gift BINGO. If you'd like to join our holiday BINGO game then bring a new, wrapped re-gift from your stash. Each person playing should bring a wrapped mystery gift. Our goal is to have everyone who brought a gift leave with a gift, so even if you didn't win a game, you'll be able to choose a prize at the end of the program.

Book Club makes January selection

The library’s Fiction Club will be reading Dave Eggers’ The Circle for their January meeting.

The dystopian novel deals with surveillance and the intrusive presence of technology in our lives and involves the discoveries of a new hire at a powerful Internet company that uses people’s personal information to create an online identity.

The Fiction Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023.

New members are always welcome!

From Miss Michelle

Hannukah begins this weekend and next weekend Santa is on his way! Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to all of our friends who celebrate!

In the Children's Room, we have some fun news to share, but first...

Take-and-make crafts

Just a friendly reminder that you can sign-up your children for Take-and-Make crafts - a great activity for these cold winter days! Sign-up weekly by Tuesday, for pick-up on Thursday or after. Our theme changes weekly and we always incorporate recycling into our upcycling! For example, this month we made advent calendars with k-cups and snowmen out of coffee creamer (and other) bottles (prototypes below). There is also an in-person crafting option on Tuesdays at 11 AM.

And now on to the news...

The Story of Ebenezer Scrooge

During our special Saturday pop-up event on December 3 as part of the Holidays in the Hamlet festivities, The Traveling Lantern Theatre Company delighted us with a live performance of The Story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Some of our friends even got to join in on the acting fun! Spoiler alert: Scrooge's frown eventually turns upside down!

MogaWorks!

Join us for our next special Saturday pop-up event on January 21, 2023, when Miss Susan from MogaWorks brings us yoga, music, movement... and most of all fun!
