Happy Trails from Steve Roguski

In January of 1999, I was quite new to Bellingham, but I knew this is where “I will grow my roots” and find my “place.” The “where” was settled... now what do I do here? Fortunately, I had an idea that captivated my imagination and my energy like never before. I would own a community oriented specialty running store. I wrote it down on a piece of paper and stuck it up on my fridge. The vision and the drive to act on that vision was so compelling and so clear to me that what I imagined to be a ten year path to opening turned out to be about 6 months. Of course, nothing that fantastic happens without much help along the way.

For 25 years, thanks to the greatest staff, family, and community, this has been a dream business to own and to feel so much pride for all we have done together. Passing the proverbial baton can be difficult (as we know from recent US Olympic sprint teams ;-) ), but the recent sale of Fairhaven Runners to Sierra and Dillon has made the story arc of the business feel almost magical and the transition smooth. They’ve been with us on this track for many years as talented employees and near-family. We are thrilled that the wonderful, caring staff and all-time great manager, Craig, will continue to provide what we call the Fairhaven Runners experience to all.

Sierra and Dillon, with their youthful energy, their love for the store and for this community, will take this dream store out strong from here, for a very long next leg of the race.

Genevie and I look forward to seeing you out in the community, on the trails, and checking out the latest gear at Fairhaven Runners!

As always- Happy trails, Steve Roguski

Top Cross Country Season Gear Picks

Cross Country is here again! Below are a few of this years' top picks for leaf crunching, puddle jumping fun (Though you don't have to run xc to appreciate these products!!). Reminder, All local schools receive 10% off regular priced shoes and accessories and 20% off racing shoes for cross country (and track).

The Nike Dragonfly XC takes our speediest track spike and transforms it for more technical, offroad conditions. This spike includes a full length plate and Nike's ZoomX foam for maximum energy return in a light-as-a-feather package.

We also carry cross country spikes from Asics, Brooks, New Balance, and Saucony and offer 20% off for all local high school and middle school athletes.

The On Cloudrunner 2 has been wildly popular on the high school cross country scene so far this season. This shoe is supportive enough for most foot types, has a medium level of cushion, and feels light on your feet - a great option for your every day training shoe. (As a bonus, it looks cool, too!)

Prefer a marshmallow-like softness? The Hoka Skyflow* has "super-critically foamed EVA" (very cushy midsole) and a forefoot "rocker" to help you spring forward with ease. Use it for an every day trainer or keep it for your long runs and days you feel extra sore from your weekly workouts and races.

*Get your chance to demo the Skyflow before you buy at the "Skyflow Tour at the All Paces Run" on Tuesday, September 10th at 5:45pm.

Keep track of pace, distance, and time with a GPS watch! We have deals on Garmin until September 20th that include $100 off the Forerunner 965 (premium watch with the most run specific features), the Forerunner 265 (classic "runner's watch" with a bright, AMOLED display), and $30 off the Forerunner 55 (a great entry level to a GPS watch and price point).

A handy dandy foam roller is the massage tool runners (and other active humans) of every level should have at home. Making foam rolling and massage a part of your routine now will help you fight off injury and keep your muscles and tissues prepped for your next big effort. We have entry level options from TriggerPoint in two different sizes, and a firmer option from Roll Recovery for a deeper massage.
