HAPPY THANKSGIVING

WE GIVE THANKS

Holy Father in Heaven, Creator of everything and source of all goodness and love, please look favorably upon us and receive our heartfelt gratitude in this period of thanksgiving.

Lord thank you for all Your graces and blessings. Father, You have bestowed upon us, spiritual and temporal: our faith and religious beliefs. Our food and shelter, our health, the affection we have for one another, our family and friends.

Dear Father, in Your boundless generosity, please grant us continued graces and blessings throughout the coming year. This we ask in the Name of Jesus, Your Son and our Savior. Amen.

THANKSGIVING MASS

This Thursday, November 23 at 10:00am

Start Thanksgiving Day with Mass in gratitude and love for God’s abundant mercies and blessings. You can bring bread or wine that will be served with your Thanksgiving Feast for Fr. Vu to bless. You can also bring non-perishable food donations for St. Vincent de Paul to be blessed by Fr. Vu. There will be pumpkin pie and coffee in the social hall after Mass. The church will close afterward through the day after Thanksgiving.

READINGS FOR CHRIST THE KING

PRACTICE OF CHARITY

The corporal works of mercy are the to-do list for Christians. Feed the hungry; cloth the naked; visit the sick and imprisoned, for there you will find Christ. In the words of the first reading, we know that Christ will bind up our injuries, rescue us and tend us, and that the nature of his sovereignty lies in this work. Until Christ returns, we take up this mission.

  • Look into the volunteer possibilities at the hospitals and nursing homes in your city. Many people who are sick or frail in a nursing home would welcome a visit.

We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.

CHRIST THE KING CELEBRATION

This Sunday, November 26

Celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King with us this Sunday, the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year.

There will be a procession of the Blessed Sacrament around the church grounds after the 9:00am Mass, around 10:15am.

Then there will be a potluck reception in the Social Hall after the 11:00am Mass. Please bring your favorite soup to share.

COME! HAIL TO THE KING OF KINGS AND THE LORD OF LORDS!

STEWARDSHIP

With Thanksgiving upon us, there is no better time to express our gratitude for all of God’s abundant blessings. As we begin to conclude our yearly campaign on Stewardship, prayerfully reflect on the blessings God has given to you and the ways in which we have been blessed through the gifts of others. Your generosity allows us to continue the mission of Jesus Christ both here in our parish family and in the wider community. May you and your loved ones have a blessed Thanksgiving holiday.

Make your pledge online using the button below.

If you have already sent in your response and this letter has crossed in the mail, please accept our sincerest thanks and appreciation for participating this year!

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

YOUTH MIGRANT PROJECT

Thank you to the Youth and Adults who joined us at the Tri-Parish Food Bank last Saturday to help with their Thanksgiving distribution. Your support helped take away the stress for many families of putting food on the table for a holiday meal.

REBATE

We have just received our first Annual Appeal rebate check for this fiscal year in the amount of $14,884. It will be used to send youth from our parish to the Religious Education Congress in February and any money available after that, to provide scholarships to active parish youth to go to CYO summer camp. Thank you to all who have paid AND continue to pay their Annual Appeal pledge.

GALA DINNER & AUCTION

Thank you to everyone who attended or volunteered or supported the effort through raffle tickets or online sales. We grossed ~$150,000 and will have our net numbers soon. One of the hits of the night was a Fr. Vu bobblehead. The final item of the evening was our traditional Mystery Bowl - the bidding war and intrigue left us all in good spirits for the evening. If you couldn’t make it this year, you truly missed a wonderful community event, and we would love to welcome you next year in whatever form it takes!

THANK YOU

Water Access Now board and volunteer staff sends blessings and thanks for the generosity of our Kirkland Catholic Communities. September and October Water from Wine events brought in almost $24,000. That is enough to drill 4 wells in poverty-stricken communities without clean water.

Special gratitude to Bishop Matthew Yitiereh for his extraordinary support for our mission.

Thankfulness to Andrea Liggett, Laura Stanger, and Ann Vandewark for their presence and making the events joy filled. Thank you to both Fr. Bryan and Fr. Vu for the chance to be visible in our parish homes.

When you do your own shopping, please consider purchasing some of the items on the food drive schedule for our pantry. Checks (payable to SJV St. Vincent de Paul) or cash donations are always welcome and may be dropped off in the parish office. Thank you for making stewardship a way of life.

UPDATE

The archdiocese released a letter from Archbishop Etienne thanking everyone for their participation in the recent Partners in the Gospel consultation. Please click on the button below to see the letter.

Along with the letter, the archdiocese published a 70-page Parish Family Feedback Report, which is a synthesis of all the feedback received during the recent consultation. Proposed changes emerged for 25 parish families, which impacts 78 parishes and missions. These 78 parishes and missions will be invited to hold a second round of consultation with staff and parishioners on the latest draft of their proposed parish family. We have not heard anything from the Archdiocese, so our parish family has not been impacted.

DID YOU KNOW???

LAYERS OF MEANING

Pictured Above: The Magi present their gifts in a 4th-century sarcophagus inscription, now in the Vatican Museums.

The preparation of the altar and the offerings is a short but deeply meaningful part of the Mass. Here, the divine and the human meet: the bread and wine, "fruit of the earth and work of human hands," are placed on the altar, where they will become the Body and Blood of Christ. God receives our simple gifts in order to return them to us transformed into something infinitely more precious: the very presence of the Godhead. The liturgy

highlights this holy exchange in the silent prayer that is said as the priest or deacon adds a little water to the wine: "By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity" (Roman Missal). In every Mass, the Word becomes flesh, and makes his dwelling among us.

Participation in the presentation of gifts is closely linked with participation in the Eucharist itself; the two processions are like two sides of the same coin. In the early Church, only the baptized were allowed to bring forward their gifts. The non-baptized were not to bring an offering until the day of their baptism. To bring forward the gifts is the privilege of those who are already members of the Body and Blood of Christ.

The presentation of gifts is also intimately linked with the Christian call to share with the poor. Thus St. Cyprian of Carthage (c.200-258) scolded a wealthy woman who came to the Eucharist but made no offering of her own: "You are rich and well-to-do; yet you think you celebrate the Lord's Supper even though you... come to it without an offering and receive a part of the offering brought by a poor person. Consider the widow in the gospel." The same holds true today. Eucharist and charity go hand in hand.
