CONVERSATION STARTERS | Volunteering!
As you prepare to volunteer with your match, it is a great time to talk about what volunteering and community service mean to you!
- Have you ever done any volunteer work? How was the experience?
- What do you consider when deciding where or how to volunteer? Why?
- What do you think people should know before deciding to volunteer as a mentor? Or, what do you wish you had known before volunteering as a mentor?
For more conversation starters, tools, and resources check out our Civic Engagement page on the Mentoring Road Map.

2023 YOUTH SUMMIT | Office of the Student Advocate
The Office of the Student Advocate is planning to host their Youth Summit on Saturday, April 29. Right now, they are looking for high school students (from both DCPS/PCS) to join their Youth Summit Planning Committee. This is an opportunity for youth to be thought partners around creating the programming and workshop structure of the summit. There will also be potential leadership opportunities to co-facilitate workshops.
Students who join the planning committee will get 1.5 hours of volunteer hours a week (we are planning of meeting for 8-9 weeks before the conference). The planning committee will meet virtually; they are still figuring out what dates are best to meet.
If interested, please contact Hannah Ayer, program manager, at hannahayer@kidpowerdc.org or 202.570.4913.
