From the Directors
Happy 2023!

Another new year is here, and we are excited to share with you what’s happening at the National Drug Court Resource Center (NDCRC). First, many of you have already seen the Painting the Current Picture: A National Report of Treatment Courts in the United States - Highlights & Insights which provides a brief summary of the most recent data regarding treatment courts across the US. Soon we will be publishing the full Painting the Current Picture: A National Report of Treatment Courts in the United States report, which provides a summary of the most recent research and data organized by treatment court type. Second, keep an eye out for some exciting new webinars covering topics such as marketing your treatment court, what can you do with your treatment court data, grant writing, and conducting effective case management, just to name a few. Third, if you haven’t visited our website lately, check it out (www.ndcrc.org)! We’ve added content and changed some of the look and feel.

The NDCRC team is always adding new resources to assist practitioners with program implementation, enhancement, and expansion efforts. Please contact us with both questions and ideas you have.

We look forward to the year ahead and hope you will visit us at our booth during RISE23!

State Coordinators Update
A Treatment Court summit for members of the Council of Statewide Treatment Court Coordinators (CSTCC), the Council of Chief Justices (CCJ), and the Council of State Court Administrators (COSCA), was held in October 2022. The two-and-a-half-day event entitled “Treatment Court Summit: Emerging Issues” sought to identify and examine national emerging issues facing the Treatment Court field. Discussion of several issues led to some consensus on the proposed development and revision of state and national treatment court policy, as well as the resources necessary to effectuate short- and long-term solutions to identified challenges. The four challenge areas identified by the CSTCC are universal screening and equal access, drug use trends and responses, harm reduction, and fidelity and certification to the treatment court model. Read about these challenges in more detail in this letter from the CSTCC.
Research to Practice
This new section of the NDCRC newsletter will highlight peer-reviewed research that is available to treatment court practitioners. This month, NDCRC staff have summarized Belenko et al.’s recently-published article The Impact of Juvenile Drug Treatment Courts on Substance Use, Mental Health, and Recidivism: Results from a Multisite Experimental Evaluation. This study is part of the National Cross-Site Evaluation of JDTC Guidelines project funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
