Happy National School Nurse Day
Dear Team DPS,

This week is National Nurses Week and today we celebrate National School Nurse Day! Thank you to all 149 school nurses in DPS who help our students thrive by keeping them safe and healthy. Thank you for continuously providing and advocating for quality student-centered care and making a positive difference for our children.

A school nurse responds to student injury and illness, administers medication and offers mental health support on a daily basis. Yet, being a school nurse is much more than band-aids and ice packs. Our talented school nurses manage comprehensive care for entire school communities. They provide a critical safety net for our students, providing and advocating for their care. As members of school-based teams, school nurses coordinate care for school health services, 504 and IEP plans, and emergencies. Above all, they are dedicated to promoting wellness and improving student outcomes.

School nurses, thank you for all that you do. Your hard work makes a difference in the lives of our students every single day. We appreciate and treasure your work!

Please join me in recognizing and celebrating our school nurses!

Respectfully,

Dr. Tony Smith
Deputy Superintendent
