Hi Neighbors,

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, where we recognize the achievements and histories of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. AAPI residents make up 38% of San José’s population strengthening our City through diversity. From supporting a local small business to thanking a friendly neighbor, I hope we can continue to recognize and uplift one another in celebrating San José’s diverse cultures.

Great news! I am bringing back Music in the Square starting May 17th! Stop by and enjoy live music entertainment at the Evergreen Village Square, and don’t forget to support one of our great local businesses. Stay tuned for additional event dates for June, July, and August. Last year was a blast and I look forward to the music and fun this year’s series will bring.

Finally, today is Mother’s Day and I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to thank all the great mothers and caretakers in our community who do so much to empower our families and neighborhoods (including my very own).

In the Community

Black April

April 30th, also known as Black April, is a day where we lament and reflect upon the fall of Saigon and South Vietnam where as many as 250,000 South Vietnamese soldiers and nearly 60,000 American soldiers passed during the Vietnam War.

This year marks 49 years of painful memories for our Vietnamese community. We commemorate the lives lost and the sacrifices made.

East San José Cinco de Mayo Celebration

It was an honor be a part of the planning committee of the East San José Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Story & King and Emma Prusch Park!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible including Councilmember Peter Ortiz, the United Lowrider Council of San José, and the San José Police Department!

Huge shoutout to everyone who showed up and showed out; I’m proud to be a product of San José!

National Light the Night

Earlier this week, we recognized National Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters. We paid tribute to the 226 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2023. This proclamation honors and remembers the sacrifice of our heroic fallen firefighters and highlights the importance of increasing our efforts to reduce deaths and injuries from fire.

Thank you to Councilmember Peter Ortiz and Councilmember Bien Doan for their partnership, and a special thank you to our Fire Chief, SJFD, and the San José Firefighters Local 230 for accepting this proclamation.

Spring 2024 Rebuilding Day

There is nothing more enjoyable than watching our community come together to help a family in-need. Rebuilding Together is responsible for so many of these moments and they do incredible work all across the City of San Jose. From minor repairs to major rehabilitation, Rebuilding Together helps eligible families stay in their homes and improve their overall quality of life.
