Today's Gospel

Jn 12:1-11

Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany,

where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.

They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served,

while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him.

Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil

made from genuine aromatic nard

and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair;

the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.

Then Judas the Iscariot, one of his disciples,

and the one who would betray him, said,

“Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days’ wages

and given to the poor?”

He said this not because he cared about the poor

but because he was a thief and held the money bag

and used to steal the contributions.

So Jesus said, “Leave her alone.

Let her keep this for the day of my burial.

You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.”

The large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came,

not only because of him, but also to see Lazarus,

whom he had raised from the dead.

And the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too,

because many of the Jews were turning away

and believing in Jesus because of him.

Today's Reflection

Today's reflection from Ms. Tracy Shaft, 3rd grade teacher at St. John Vianney Catholic School.

Give your all to Christ. That’s all that truly matters. Mary’s act of devotion shows us this when she used her most expensive perfume to wash the feet of Jesus. We must all give the best we have, not the easiest. Mary did the right thing. She didn’t worry about what others thought. She knew that Jesus is worthy of everything you can do for Him. That’s all that truly matters. She humbled herself by using her hair to dry Jesus’ feet. She was overcome with her love for Him. Has there been a time in your life when you have felt Him in such a powerful way? When it stopped you in your tracks? This act of Mary’s love and devotion to Jesus is what we need to remember each and every day. The fragrance of the oil spread throughout the house. We need to let our love and devotion to Jesus spread throughout our life so that others can also know and understand that Jesus is worthy of everything we can do for Him. That’s all that truly matters.

Let us pray...

"Heavenly Father, may I sit at Your feet and worship You with all that I am and all that I have - and may the beauty of Jesus become a life-giving fragrance of His love to all with whom I come in contact today, in Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN."
